This has been the warmest year/mildest winter at least in the 20+ years I have been living here. My apricot tree is blooming on Valentine's Day instead of St. Patrick's Day. I'm sure it will turn cold again, but right now it's barely freezing at night if at all.

-9F in n. WI. And I don't have any hops in the ground to look forward to during the July thaw. Enjoy my suffering.

Last year the snow wasn't gone until the end of May. I had hops rhizomes die over winter one year, but I think that was due to excessive freeze and thaw cycles and soil saturation during the thaws. Would have been better if it had just stayed in the deep freeze that whole winter. After nothing came up, I dug them up and they had pretty much rotted.

It's been super warm here also. I've not seen any shoots yet, but I haven't looked that hard. It wouldn't surprise me if they have started under the mulch.

My hops would have to be at least a foot high for me to even know they were there, too much snow in KY

We're still at about 5 feet. Planning on planting some European varieties thid year if the snow ever actually melts.

Not the coldest winter overall here, but definitely the lowest lows that I have experienced in the mid-Atlantic. Multiple days in the single digits? What is this, North Dakota?

The moment I posted, I thought that I was going to look like an ass to all the people in upstate NY or MN, I forgot that the Northeast in general had been slammed this year.

When people say that KY is the south, I make sure to mention days like today with the high temp of 5 degrees

Yeah, I'm more or less convinced I'm never seeing grass again.
