Agreed with all of the above...Tavern Cut is effin legit
Nothing about that can graphic screams "I want to try this beer." In fact, it makes me want a slice of alley pizza or the chicken pox....
Mmmmm chicken pox
Both of these beers are fantastic.
I'm impressed. Tavern Cut puts HB alongside FR and Corridor for best NEIPAs in town.
I enjoyed Tavern Cut as well. Skrap Metal was too sweet for my liking. And I'm not done with Mikerphone.
No, I was right the first time. Corridor and and FR are ahead of the curve. You serve Tavern Cut at one of those bars and tell people it is from one of those breweries and they wouldn't doubt it. It's identical to what those brewers are putting out.
Gotta agree. Not a fan of the can art on this one.
the can art on this one may not be so great, but the beer itself is phenomenal.
Anyone know of a stock pile of Alemerica in the city?
Not sure where you are at but the Garfield’s beverage depot by Harlem and Irving right by 90 had some last Friday they also had a lot of random older stuff ba and non ba aged beers they still had 2017 bcbs, 2016 120 minute, 2016 world wide stout and some 2015 and 2016 abyss reserve. Felt that was worth mentioning.
Has anybody figured out a pattern to HB’s tweets about drops? They don’t tweet each and every delivery—as far as I can tell there is no rhyme or reason to whether or when they tweet about delivery at a given account.
Didn't love Skrap Metal...I got an odd peanut butter not that was a bit off-putting. Maybe this can got left in the heat too long??
However, I'm having a Tavern Cut now & enjoying it quite a bit. Tropical, soft mouthfeel, dry but not bitter...this is one of their better efforts IMO.
I was out of town/late to the party--anyone see Tavern Cut around the city still?
Capones on the Northside had about 11 4-packs yesterday at 7pm
Not sure where you are, but I finally found some just tonight at Morenos in Little Village. They had about 3 or 4 4-packs left.
I grabbed a 4 pack tonight at the lincolnwood binnys. They had about a case left. Had my first one tonight and it lived up to its hype.
Sorry guys, I’ve got to dissent on Tavern Cut. Body was pleasingly full, definitely sugar- (but not in a malty way) sweet, but there was a lingering back end bitterness that was just weird. I’m thinking it’s just a little green and I hope it will round out in a couple weeks. Admittedly, I’m a NEIPA skeptic but I’ve really been trying to give them a fair shake. I had high hopes for this one and gave it a shot (despite the can art)
So after the high of Tavern Cut I decided to ride the HB wave only to come crashing back down after getting a 4 pack of Skrap Metal. Not a fan. None of the body or flavors of Tavern Cut. Since HB stopped using the term NEIPA because half the time they applied it to beers that clearly weren't are we stuck in the reverse of not being able to find which beers are NEIPAs because they don't label them?
Both beers were equally delicious IMO
blazed milkshake is drinking fantastic right now. the aroma developed to an insane degree.
gutted its my last can...
Milkshake or pale? Had my last milkshake over the weekend and thought the creamsicle taste faded a bit.
nice shout dude. milkshake. the orange is more prevalent than ever for me. melds so god damn nicely with the vanilla cream. mouthfeel seems to have gained a notch or two as well.
Next on the docket from our boys at HB will be a couple new ones. Vacation Mode which will be a witbier, Lemony Fresh looks like it might actually drop and the return of Telehopic. Excited for that one as it was excellent last time around.
There's a decent amount of Tavern Cut and Skrap at Binny's Grand, if anyone is still looking (like I was).
Heading there now. Anything else interesting? Thanks!!
Hmm...Brickstone's new NE beer is there as well (I've heard things, so that or Stone's new NE beer, which I didn't see out, were going to be my fallback); they were just receiving stuff, so I'd assume there's more incoming. Plenty of PsuedoSue for $7.99 as well, although I'm not sure of the freshness date.
Quite frankly, how can anyone care about freshness at that price point. 64 oz of 2 year old stale Sue for the price of one draft of a brewpub NEIPA? Yes please.
I wouldn't pay $8 for a case of the first batches that hit Chicago, so I'm a little traumatized (although yes, I know they're not brewed in the same place).
I'm digging that HB has seemingly upped production somewhat; double-drops of their beer is an awesome change.
I'd like to see them get their price point down a few bucks. Hopefully with Roger at Maplewood we get some worthy competition of new NEIPAs in quality at a better price point.
really enjoying this new offering.
$15 is pretty standard at the moment though, isn't it? All Half Acre IPA one-offs hit at around here, and most of the NE stuff we're seeing is at that point. I'd love cheaper options, too, but I'm just not sure how viable that is for the moment.
Yeah, I'm very curious. I like Brickstone's stuff, and they fly under the radar, so this one might be an easy-to-get go-to.
Grabbed a 4 pack of each Tavern and Skrap. Also grabbed a sixer of Brickstone's Haz'd Juice (canned 7/6 btw). Looking like a good weekend!! I appreciate the tips and reviews!!
that's great to see, appreciate the head sup.
after having had a 4 of each, i actually enjoy skrap a bit more, so i'll have to grab another.
Skrap has to be substantially warmer that Tavern at serving to get rid of all the boozy alcohol flavors....
Having one of my last ones right now. Getting tons of vanilla. Wish I would've saved an entire 4 pack instead of just 2 cans.
Really digging Telehopic. Big pineapple with a little piney-ness. Similar mouthfeel to the last few hazys.
Hell ya the post I've been waiting for.
I had a crush on the Hop Butcher for a couple years but after the last round, i'm head over heels in love.
Great pic (even if its sideways). Where are people getting this glass? Really digging it.
Not currently in stock, but HB's site actually has some nice drinking options, and solid pricing:
(I regret that I own none of them because I have a million glasses already, and my wife almost murdered me the last time I brought up buying more)
