Alesmith IPA will hit some of those tropical notes for you, as well as Sculpin. Obviously both suggestions are a bit lower on ABV, but I find them satisfying a hop fix as well as many doubles out there...

    Hoptimum
    Palate Wrecker (preferably on draft)

Hopslam is not super hoppy, surprisingly easy to drink and 10%abv. I'd compare it to DFH 120 minute w/ the exception of booziness 120 has.

I'm a big fan of Hoptimum and I find it tastes NOTHING like HopSlam. As others have pointed out, check out Alchemy Hour from Great Lakes. Definitely the closest thing to HopSlam I've seen (and I think it's better).

Palate wrecker is just too dry for me, I like it plenty but not a lot of drinkability.

Williamsburg Alewerks Bitter Valentine is awesome. It's not as heavy on the palate and not quite as sweet, I could drink 40s of that stuff. And oh god the nose on that beer.

Evolution Lot# 6 is pretty close a little more depth of malt and color, not as sweet.

Hoptimum has similar gummy sweetness with a more intense grapefruit rind bitterness

and as mentioned Alchemy Hour is pretty close.

I'll second Hoptimum, and it was just released. 90 Minute is always good. As is Central Waters Illumination IIPA.

Double Jack makes Hopslam look like PBR. Which I love too.

double jack, hoptimum, and double trouble all get another vote from me

BTW, i know its not quite fresh at this point, but i would be happy to send a few bottles of hopslam, and you can let me take some of that pesky heady topper off your hands :grinning:

most beers ive had dont come close to the same flavor as hopslam. the only one ive had that comes close is alchemy hour. i had hopslam and alchemy hour together yesterday and they are just different beers from everything else mentioned in this thread that i have had. the OP asked for a hopslam alternative, not beers people like better than hopslam. to me, many of the beers mentioned really arent even similar, they just happen to be other big IPAs.

I agree. One notable difference......to me anyway is Sucks seems to have more of an alcohol presence. Where Hopslam hides it much better.
