Hopslam will only be available in cans and on draught in 2016

I've purchased two beers in case quantity over the past 6 months--Two Hearted pounders and Best Brown pounders. Keep up the good work Bell's. More cans!

 

I think it's hilarious that people still think a can imparts ANY flavor whatsoever.

 

Great news, imho. 12 oz cans are the best packaging format.

 

I love screw caps as they are the best but synthetic corks work just fine and are actually better long term cellaring as they don't break down like natural corks when opening a bottle.

 

Good. I think ALL beers should be in cans.

I'd prefer the 16oz cans but 12's are fine

 

I have a 2013 and 2015. I plan on a side by side of the '15 and '16 while probably looking to crack the '13 most any time. Glad to hear that it has become tasty, as I've been hit and miss with aging DIPAs and such. Burton Baton was excellent, 90 Minute was a nightmare. I also have a blasphemous experiment going on - I'm putting a year on a can of Heady.....Hopefully the Department of Beer Welfare and Protective Services does not come to my house and remove it from my custody.

 

I'm going to petition Bell's to change the packaging for Hopslam to bombers. They can price it at $9 a bottle. So even though the price per ounce nearly doubles, because $9 a bomber is about middle of the pack for bomber pricing, everything will be all good.

Plastic lining and aluminum. Nothing beats a dark brown/black glass bottle.

 

I have one more '14 left. Hoping I can save it until the '16 release. You're right, some DIPA's are hit and miss aging. Hopslam was pretty perfect. As for the Heady, good luck. I would never judge. I've only had it it once or twice. No way it was going to sit around long enough to age lol.

 

Maybe I'll finally get around to trying it this time around.

 

Bombers being outrageously priced still doesn't change $18/sixer being ludicrous as well. I know Bell's can do no wrong though.

 

I think the 12 oz can is the perfect size for a 10% abv.

Generally speaking I like cans because they save space and cans protect the beer better than bottles. I'll tell you something else, draft is simply a giant can. Who doesn't like draft?

I'm quite surprised to hear that some people have problems with Two Hearted in cans. I buy the bottles when the cans aren't available, otherwise it's cans. I've had bottles and cans side by side, poured into shaker pints, and have found no difference. But that's me.

 

Glass is very easy on the environment. In all aspects, manufacturing, recycling and even landfill. Aluminum is resource heavy to manufacture and more resource heavy than glass to recycle. However, aluminum is 100% recyclable, the same aluminum can be recycled until the end of time. It's also less resource heavy to transport because it is a lot lighter than glass. In balance, I don't know if aluminum is just as good as glass on the environment but they are both good materials.

Who cares if its can or bottle. Its a great beer that I have had once. I refuse to pay $20-22 a six pack or $8.50 a bottle at a bar. Not seen it on draft but imagine its $8 a 10 oz pour. Maybe it will be more available and I can get a case for $65 and split it with friends. If not I am ok buying something else from Bells. I really like Cherry stout( Sorry you dont)and Java and Kalamazoo cost less for a case than 2 sixers of Hop Slam

How do "Budlight" cans differ from the "craft" beer cans? In the US (and worldwide), both craft and non-craft brewers use cans from the major manufacturers - Ball, Crown and Rexam, the latter of which is the process of being purchased by Ball. (In fact, ABInBev sold some of their can plants to Ball soon after the merger of the two companies.)

WooHoo, now we can play beer hunter with a proper beer, seriously cans seem to be the way to go for so many different reasons.
I'm sure that the hop profile will last at least a week in these cans instead of two or three days in the bottles, JK, just wanted to be the first to type that.

I did see three cases on a garage shelf this morning, eleven sixers just sitting there left from the eight cases I saw earlier this year, almost cried

 

I have no problem with cans, they travel well and have no negative impact on flavor. Hopefully 1/6th keggs will be available as well.

 

All I'm saying is I've never experienced a taste difference in craft cans, but in the past have gotten tinny or metallic taste from some macro cans.

 

Fine with me..always drink it as soon as i get it so not a big deal

 

Didn't get it until over a month after it was bottled last year so it was a pretty big let down. Hopefully the can can retain a bit more freshness so I can judge the beer accurately this time

 

The people who don't love it are wrong tbh

 

The price and all of the hoopla continue to amuse me.

 

Of course they're wrong, but I'd bet the over on 50% of craft drinkers thinking it tastes better out of a bottle. Hell I've seen people rejecting NYFRB and moving on to "coney island" now that it's only in cans. That's a real head scratcher.

 

It's ridiculous. People always say that cans taste metallic but kegs are made of the same material...

 

Yea, I'm that guy, it was better 7-8 years ago. Bring back that fruity hoppy monster, not the dank pine version.

Beer cans are made of aluminum with a water-based polymer lining to keep the beer from reacting with the aluminum, kegs are made of stainless steel.

 

Damn, I paid 18.49 per sixer from my work, and that's with a 30% margin.

Same here. I've no desire to drink a beer that big in a 16oz container that I can't even put a stopper in (which is the only way I justify opening high-ABV bombers half the time).

Well, I mean, I've some desire for that. Just not a lot of desire to get that drunk that quickly.

 

Sound great if you can find it. Everybody grabs it and reserves it like its gold. Its a game of luck if you can purchase it.

Very cool. Cans are especially a good idea since they preserve freshness better. Now, if only I actually get some time I'd be happy.
