I've heard it both ways. Which do you use?

My understanding is that wErt is correct, but I've said wOrt so often as to inscribe a deep neural pathway that may be indelible. I will say wErt when I am accutely concious of the mistake, but otherwise, wOrt comes out. Same as when I teach about liverworts and other plants with the same suffix.

wErt is correct. It also happens to be the way I say it. But I do say 'trub' insread of 'troob.'

What happened to your first response? But if it's based on German, wouldn't it be pronounced VERT?

'vert' is as close to correct as you're likely to hear in the US. That wasn't one of the choices, so I didn't vote.

And it's 'troob'. (Damn, it's hard to type that word on an iPhone!)

A lot of times I pronounce it "beer." But I'm pretty sure "wert" is correct.

    Wort rhymes with flirt.
    Trub rhymes with boob.

I pronounce it like I friggin' feel like pronouncing it. Anybody who doesn't like it will find a big bucket* of wErt/wOrt/bEEr poured over their head! :astonished:

    *of approximately five gallons

Never heared it pronounced other than wert , have been to dozens of breweries and met loads of brewers.
Most "wor" spelt words are pronounced "wer" such as word, work, worm,so it makes sense.

That is one of the biggest problems to us people who speak spanish, english Phonetics. In our idiom vowels and consonants sound always in the same way.

I pronounce it with the E sound but in my head when I read I still think of it with a hard O sound.
