In SE Mass/RI we dont have Total Wine we have Wines & More. How do these places compare and are they pretty much the same ?

Wide selection and old IPA's----- does that explain Total Wine also?

When I was in college in Pennsylvania, we would usually go across the Delaware border to get beer, to "Total Wine and More." Those of us who ran student organizations could buy supplies for our events and get reimbursed by the student budget committee, but we weren't allowed to get reimbursed for alcohol. Apparently, one club leader submitted a Total Wine and More receipt to the head of the SBC. When the SBC head told him he couldn't approve the reimbursement, the club leader responded, "Well, I got my supplies from the 'and More' section."

...That SBC head may or may not have been BeerAdvocate user and super-trader boatshoes.

wines and more is bogus...they keep Maine beer co behind the counter as it is considered a "limited release" Oh that is actually just the left overs from what the employees pluck. Lunch has not hit shelves since summer of 2011.

I don't know about total wine but everyones comments about wines and more are dead on. Also expect to pay a minimum of $2 more than anywhere else.

Never been to a TW, but pretty spot on about the W&M in Mansfield pricewise. What I do love is the announcements for every release on Facebook, bottle limits but no lists, and a pretty wide selection for down this way. I have gotten Enjoy By, BCBS, BA Raspy, etc. from them with no hassles.

I live in Boston so I don't have too much experience with them, but I did excitedly stop in one time when I was in SE Mass. I was horribly disappointed. They had a huge selection (to be expected) but alot of their stock was old and the prices were very high for a store like that. Pretty much everything I looked at was equal to or greater than the prices I pay at small shops in downtown Boston.

I lived in NC for 5 years and Total Wine kicked ass. I can't say the same for Wines & More

Wines and More in Wareham loves to jack up prices beyond reason. I rarely stop in anymore. Lots of bottles that are past the best before date too.

I agree 100% about the one in Wareham. I will stop by if I am passing by looking for a single beer because of all variety they have. I would never buy a bomber there though due to the price increase. Even with the discount from purchasing six bottles, you are still paying more than most places.

You can insert that review for most geek-centric stores in MA.

I'll go there because I live five minutes away and the selection is huge. A couple of the employees are nice guys, but I have issues with the place besides the high prices.

Here are two examples of why I'm not thrilled with the store:

    1. Wormtown Be Hoppy retails for $8.99! I bought one back in January when they got the December batch. I didn't want to spend 9 bucks for it, but whatever, it was the last bottle they had. I got it and enjoyed it. Fast forward to last week. A new supply of Be Hoppy is in stock. Only one problem: it was from the October '12 batch. A bit of a head scratcher.

    2. When the first Massachusetts batch of Stone Enjoy By came out, I asked one of the beer guys about it. He told me, "not 'till next week." Turns out they put it on shelves the next day. Gone in two hours. Fast forward to the latest round of Stone Enjoy By. I had the exact same experience. Exactly the same. I asked a guy, he said "next week," and they put it on sale the very next day. Poof! Gone.

Those are just two of the recent experiences. I could go on.

Thankfully they aren't my only option.

I shop at Wines and More. I don't think it is all bad - plenty of other places's prices are just as high. Some of their stuff is more expensive than other places, some is cheaper. I just picked up a couple six packs of Racer 5 on sale at $10.99 apiece - not a bad deal. They have good variety and good sales from time to time. They have a big stock of Jack's Abby that other places don't have - particularly Hoponious Union. They are not the only place I shop at but they offer things some small package store don't. I don't buy their overpriced bombers or singled but I will pick up 4, 6 and 12 packs. I would rather have them around than not.

that bad thing about wines and more is it put corks out of business which was just down the road...when I first started drinking craft and only drank dfh, hellhound was 12.99 at corks but 17.99 at wines and more a mile down the road...i mean come on.

as to the stone enjoy bye I wouldnt be surprised if they knew they were only getting a case and the employees got it. I know for a fact thats what happened to lunch because I went to high school with all the kids that work there and one of them told me.

That's exactly what happened when they got a small order of Pretty Things Meadowlark last year. The employees got the whole thing. One of the guys told me.

And quite frankly, some of their prices are shocking, as your example clearly shows. It is not unusual for them to mark a bomber 3 or 4 bucks higher than other stores.

How is $10.99 a good price for Racer 5? That's a deal? That's the standard price. Their "sales" are a joke.

The Eclipse BA stouts were $30 everywhere else which is pretty rediculous (but normal retail price around here), at Wine & More Mansfield they were $35.

Their selection seems overrated to me. They claim to have over 3,000 beers but it doesnt seem like. They have the same stuff everytime I go and I see the same singles over and over again.
