Hi all, I've never tried any beer at all by Bell's. Reading the reviews, they all seem to be highly recommended/rated. Just today I saw some Expedition Stout and decided to pick some up. Someone must have miss placed the pack because it read $7.99 and I bought it. Come the time I look at my receipt, I notice that it says $17.99 :astonished: I'm not one to usually spend that much on a 6 pack (but I guess in reality it isn't so expensive as bombers run $9 and up around here for Stone and Southern tier what have you not. Is it a good stout in your opinion? I've always kind of walked by all of the Bell's beers because I tend to overlook their minimalist design I suppose.

I may be biased but I find Expo to be one of the better seasonal imperial stouts you can find in the Midwest. You should hopefully be able to pull out a lot of chocolate, licorice, and dark fruit. It also ages like a champ. As for your buyer's remorse, sure, there are cheaper stouts but if you age a couple of bottles you can just consider it an investment for the future. Hope you enjoy!

It's really well done imperial stout I bought a single and it's a lot easier to swallow at 3 bucks for one especially if you've never had it

I think it's an excellent beer and worth every penny. It ages so well that I love to try it periodically, a 6 pack has been known to last me 2 years.

Wow! I'll have to set a few back then. I've never had the patience to set anything back for over a few months, but that's a lame excuse I suppose

Yes, I would easily pay $17.99 for a *4* pack of expedition stout. All of the bells stuff is great with age too.

Smooth and subtle. Put some age on it.

I'm a Michigan beer slappy but Expedition Stout is a world class beer. Let it sit in a dark cool area for a few years and it's even better.

Your future self will thank you for buying a sixer right now. Expedition gets exponentially better with age.

You are paying the same price per ounce of most any other imperial stout on the market. $12/4 = $18/6 pack. The difference is that Bells is one of the last to actually put an imperial beer in a 6 pack, but it is still priced the same. Big numbers scare people.

No matter what year the vintage or how long or short the aging process is, the beer always tastes like soy sauce to me. I have one bottle in my fridge right now that is from 2011; if this one turns out to taste like the others I have had, I will be giving up on this beer for sure.

Big deal, right? Bell's will continue to make it and sell it, many people will continue to enjoy it, the world will continue to turn...

I hope the OP likes it!

    Fresh, it's fantastic.

With a year or two? It ranks among the best.

It's worth every penny. Age some of it for a year or two, that way you can justify stretching out the 'extra' cost that you spent on the beer.

Also, don't walk past the Bell's beers (or any beer) based on the label's appearance. Bell's does a great job on everything that they put out (some people will disagree on that point with some of the beers). If you like IPAs, then their Two Hearted Ale is one of the best that you can find nationally. Check out the reviews here: http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/
