Not yet, but given the magical properties of beer I would not be surprised if that evidence were to come out one day soon.....LOL!

I too have a two month old, but it looks like the impact on children is minimal. Kids seem to cope with this and have less severe symptoms. It puts me at ease on that, but now I worry about all the octogenarians in my family...

As or the impact on my beer advocacy...other factors probably play more into reduced purchases than fear of the virus.

Exactly, its a respiratory illness that is going around during flu season. Wash your hands, cover your cough, wish your society made provisions for service industry workers to be able to afford to stay home when they're sick, and call it a day

I hope your right.. but I am all ready to quote a bunch of people here in a month or two and give them some captain hindsight.

These "scientists" seem to think a best case scenario is 15 million dead worldwide and a 2 trillion hit to the world economy.

And if these scientists are anything like the well educated weather forecasters who can't tell me with better than 50% accuracy what is going to happen with the weather more than 12 hours out....

Looking at how the USA is handling this virus I don’t see a good outcome. The Chinese have started to bring it under control but the methods they used would probably not be used here because “it’s more important to have freedom to do whatever the fuck you want” than control a serious virus that might put your entitled selves out of normal routine for a month or so. Our president and his staff are treating this as it is nothing at all.

    Enjoy

Weather forecasts are almost always very accurate within a couple days.

Hey, speaking of people who casually dismiss good science in favor of just whatever the fuck belief most appeals to them at that particular moment...

To accurately predict the weather we would need thousands more weather balloons and data collection sites. It is possible to do but impractical to implement.

The hit to the world economy I won’t argue, there’s so much supply chain disruption already and way more to come.

I’ll bet anyone a box of beer and take the under on 15 million dead. Gotta get the clicks and likes somehow.

Reminds me of the time here in NC when the weather people were warning us about weather.

I went to Food Lion and loaded my cart with beer.
Looked around and everyone was buying bread and milk.
Bread and milk go bad Way before beer does.
It was a eerie feeling at the time.

As long as you are healthy, not being 80 or with some strange genetic problem.
You won't have any problem. For healthy people the CDC says: Very low risk of serious issues.
The Only people who died were already sick.

The thing is, a large portion of the country is the baby boomer generation.. they are very prone to die from the disease. Hell anyone who is 80 could die any day from a wide range of things.

For healthy people.. aka 25% of America maybe. The only saving grace is it doesn't kill kids which was a reason flu deaths are what they are.

I'll answer the question in a bit of a different way. This comes from someone in the California wine industry but I think most of it applies to beer.

Tourism in general is starting to take a big hit. I saw a headline a few minutes ago saying that oil has had it's biggest drop (in.....something?) ever. I would imagine most of that is due to jet fuel. Ok, most overseas tourists aren't coming to the US to hit all the breweries, but it's a harbinger.

Something we are starting to talk about in the wine industry are the big spring and summer festivals. It's too early to tell but there's a chance some of your favorite beer events might be canceled, or you'll see smaller crowds. You may start seeing fewer people in the taprooms. Breweries can scale back production and trim some staff to adjust, but this is harder to do at wineries (wines aren't made on demand).

Crude oil is down due to many reasons. Less demand in China, as some cities are locked down, and there are images in the web of how pollution has decreased as manufacturing has been halted. Sea shipments are down, heard that the port of Los Angeles had 25% less traffic last month, and the Union Pacific has mothballed more than 200 locomotives due to less container traffic. Italy has locked down some cities, there was a report on NPR this morning from Rome stating that tourism is way down. Oil is in everything, either directly or in moving the goods about.

The Craft Brewers Conf. is to happen soon in San Antonio. It still seems to be on. Other conferences have been cancelled, so we will see.

Yeah, I think the biggest change will be conferences and large single-site events. While bottom-line beer sales may not suffer much from this, this will definitely disrupt the lives of people who are behind the scenes, support staff, and the organizations that put them on.
