    Hi folks,

Been brewing for about 2 years but this is only my 5th batch. Curious how long I should dry hop my American IPA for in the secondary. I added 2 oz. Amarillo to it last week, it's coming up on 7 days. I've read that a week is ideal - but is 2 weeks too much?

I typically respond to posts where folks ask about the proper contact time for dry hopping as being 7-14 days. I used to dry hop for 7 days (and I was pleased with the results) but for the past 5 years or so I have been dry hopping for 14 days (and I am pleased with the results). So, the short answer to your question is that 2 weeks is not too much.

I highly suspect that the majority of hop aroma is extracted at 7 days but I am supposing that a 14 day contact time extracts some more aroma.

You can package (bottle?) your beer right now or wait another 7 days. Your choice.

    Cheers!
