33 here. I assume some of mine are lacking on the East Coast and desert/mountain regions of The West.

88 countries without trading? Wow. You’ve been to some great stores. I’m estimating I could have access to 10 countries at the max in any given store near me.

Interesting to see WV being the elusive missing one for most people. Yes we have craft beer here and we have pretty damn good craft beer TBH. I recommend actually visiting and going to a microbrewery as the distribution in state is kinda meh considering the proximity that most of the population is to other states (I live right by Ohio and shop there)

Right! That's half the damn UN! I'd bet most of us couldn't even name 88 countries just off the top of our head. That's a very impressive stat to me. One of my favorite bars/stores is in Louisville, KY and called Sergios World Beer. It's an epic collection of beer from literally all over the world. I recall one visit where I drank beer from Germany, Belgium, New Zealand, Brazil, and Jordan all in one sitting.

Next time I make it out that way I will have to do a head count because I am skeptical they have more than 40 nations represented in that place.

At my best local store I'd be shocked if I could find more than 5 (USA, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Canada?)

Appears many Advocates haven't had or reviewed any beers from South Dakota. There are a lot. Here are two excellent examples: from Sioux Falls, Fernson Lion's Paw Lager & from Rapid City, Lost Cabin SoDank IPA. I've reviewed these and really enjoy them. Cheers!

40 states. 40 Countries. I think both have been stuck there for a while. It's tough to get new ones while still keeping my snobbish standards. Many states (and countries) aren't big on brewing.

16 different states, just over 250 reviews total on BA, maybe 100 foreign reviews. But we were doing tastings 50 years ago.

In the 70s we didn't review, but we did evaluate, some examples. From 20 states (or more depending on multiple location brewers): CA (Anchor), OR (Blitz), WA (Heidelberg), AZ (A-1), WI (Peoples), CO (Walter), TX (LoneStarDraft=LSD), LA (Dixie), MD (Nat. Boh), PA (Steg), NY (Utica Club), MI (Geyer Bros.), MD (Queen City), NJ (Ballantine Ale), IL (Meisterbrau), KY (Falls City),IA (Dubuque Star), MN (Cold Spring), FL (Duncan), AK (Prinz).

Funny enough, I've managed to get the hard ones of ND and WV. For ND, kegs of Drekker have showed up at my neighborhood taphouse. WV is tough unless you visit the state. The surprise for me is NJ. It's a big state with a lot of breweries, but apparently no one distributes this far west.

I reviewed by 50th state around 7 years ago. I had to trade for about 10 of the states.

It would also be cool to se which BA's have the most reviews of beers from each state. I'm going to go ahead and claim victory for WV, 135 different beers.

"Arkansas" being tough to get is kinda strange, since the state did have one of the earliest craft brewers, Riley Lyon in Little Rock, founded by William Lyon and Scott Riley, which released its first beer, Riley Red Lion Ale, in Feb. 1984. So, before Boston Beer and well ahead of most every other existing "craft" brewer except for Sierra Nevada, and at a time when most US states were home to no brewing companies at all (not counting states that had only branches of national or regional breweries).

According to M. Jackson's S&S Pocket Guide to Beer [1986], Red Lion was:
"...a well-made, copper-coloured pale ale, with a fresh, fruity acidity in the finish.
(3 out of 4 stars - 'Worth Seeking Out')".

Later called Arkansas Brewing Co. when it released a less "challenging" beer, White Tail Lager.

I guess the state just didn't keep up.:grimacing: Funny 'cause I was able to buy a six of Riley Red Lion Ale in NJ at the time. I think I might even have the sixpack carrier around here someplace, but can't say I've seen it lately...

Even living in MD, WV beers didn’t come easy. The four that I’ve sampled all came courtesy of a co-worker who was living in WV.

I had Riley Red Lion Ale back in the 1900's/late 1980's. Back then I wasn't in one place for very long and I believe it was in Missouri where I tried it.. I noted then that Legacy Lager from Chicago was even better...Cheers!

OK, I'll do it since you used the magic word… but I only took one can from the store. I don't ordinarily buy beer named after predatory male behavior in bulk. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a Landshark. People on BA like to claim that other folks buy Bud and Corona due to the marketing, but comparisons on BA of the flavor of this beer to Corona seem like a product of marketing to me. For my palate, this can of Landshark seemed much more like a United States adjunct lager than a Corona. After drinking it, I noticed that the can states: "brewed and canned by Margaritaville Brewing Co., St. Louis, MO." What! That's not what BA states. I think I'll stick with Cigar City for my Florida tick. I know they're owned by CANarchy in Colorado... which is owned by Monster Beverage in California... and could be brewed in Texas, North Carolina or wherever... but BA has them listed as Florida and what BA states is good enough for me... as long as we're only talking about independent craft beer and not some obfuscating un-independent (dependent?) big beer. Look @JackHorzempa , this is an “island style lager.” It must have island hop extract in it then. (Thanks for letting me have a bit of fun by using your post @dcotom , but I was serious about Landshark being nothing like Corona to me.)

That was tough for me as well, even though it's not that far from here. I'm lucky that I passed through it a few months back, as I'm going for all of the National Parks in the Lower 48 as I hit up New River Gorge on the way home.

From what I read on this thread that I started, West Virginia was a holdout for quite a few, aside from the obvious states in the south, middle of the country, and northern Rocky Mountain states. I picked up quite a few brews from the Mountaineer State on my way home and there were bit better than I expected. Even when I get to all 50 states, I will still seek out brews from places that I don't have much from, as I feel that the cutting edge will be from locales that aren't heavily into the craft beer scene. If nothing else, the labels from those places will look better in my collection!

I'm at 49 missing Nevada and West Virginia. My boss is a beer fan as well and takes a western states road trip every year. He normally brings me a mixed 6 for holding down the fort in his absence. I am also 2 hours from Nashville and 4 from Cincinnati both have dramatically different regional craft that doesn't make it to the Midwest.

I know everyone has been beating up the evil empire for messing up the state counts here, but national craft is guilty as well. California is my #2 state nearly 200 beers, most of which were brewed in Mills River, NC and Richmond, VA. Plenty of my Massachusetts ticks were probably brewed in Ohio. The list goes on...
