That is why they call him "The Yorkshire Square" after all...

OK - you can stay. Now, if you'd have said: "What a fuckin' nut job..."

Fuck him. Samuel Smith products will now be boycotted by me indefinitely.

Hopefully, the community rises up as one and gets this reversed. Rises up austerely, of course.

@jesskidden "The Yorkshire square":laughing::laughing: I thought that was St. George's in front of Huddersfield train station?:stuck_out_tongue:

It is amazing how easily offended some people are. And I'm not just talking about Mr. Humphrey Smith.

We get offended at the most minor alleged affronts to whatever our favorite sensitive spot is.

IMO, those who find Mr. Humphrey's behavior something to rail against should look in the mirror.

Or he already made up his mind to shut it before he dropped in for a pint. How long did he have to sit there to wait for the F-bomb to be dropped

Seems extreme, why not toss the punter. I’m assuming a punter in the UK is a bar patron? Square or not I bet it cost him a good buck to shut it down too, not a good business decision I’m sure.

Fairly extreme. Nobody likes an annoying idiot at the bar yelling or swearing but he « overheard » it. Closing up shop over it?

(Tried hard not to be tempted by any F-word pun here.)

This is what I thought also, the f-bomb is a convenient excuse/story/headline. He was closing the place already.

Well put. The last time the Yorkshire Square popped his head out of ground, I think I banned all bans. Still not sure what the idiot in the mirror thought of that.

It’s a theory, BUT... the guy implemented a strict “zero tolerance” policy against swearing in his pubs in 2017. There was a thread on BA a while back about how he fired another manager when he heard a customer swearing.

Not sure “no swearing” is better PR for the company than “it wasn’t a profitable location” either.

It was definitely that last straw which is solely responsible for breaking the camel's back. Definitely.

It most certainly wasn't all the other factors/weights that had been building up over time.

    Nope.

Ejecting a patron for violating house policy is one thing, closing the place and depriving others of their livelihood is quite another.

No kidding right, if this is truly the reason it cost him a fortune I suppose to do so. At least I’m thinking that’s the case.

Yeah but you shut down a pub because of 1 customer is kinda fucked up. I guess I could head over to England and go into each of his pubs and drop the f bomb and put him out of business...

It’s pretty likely that people swear in each of his pubs daily. I reckon he doesn’t get out much.

    Huh? Who's offended?

Closing an establishment because one of the patrons cursed is simply bafflingly inane. There are myriad ways to disagree with something without being offended by it.

I bet he gets trolled a lot if he is recognized in public. "Hey, Humphrey how the fuck are you old chap!? Bloody fucking good to see you!" etc etc.

I wonder if anyone has got him to fall for the old hold your tongue between your thumb and index finger and say dump truck gag that was so popular circa fifth grade.

They would've shut damn near every pub I was at in the UK ( 88-93 ) if that word was verboten, except Wales. Because I probably heard it Welsh...

It has to remembered that the word is far less acceptable in company in the UK than perhaps in the US. Within a group is one thing, audible to other customers rather less so.
But normally the offender would be asked to take more care, or if persistent, to leave. But the pub would stay open.

If I'm this guys competitors I'm paying a couple of old foul mouthed sailors to drink at his establishments to put him out of business....

And if I'm a patron who likes his other pubs, I'm talking in a quiet voice and measuring my words carefully when I visit.
