It's funny, a local shop here had a Vanilla last month - who knows where he got it - I'm in CA - he wanted $80 for it because "that's what they go for on eBay" as he put it. I declined. At this point I think I should have bought it!!! It's gone now.

I've tried rarer SD beers like Exponential Hoppiness ( going way over $4$ ) very rare releases like BA Decadence, multiple Beats way over $4$ with W12 as the cherry on top - not a single BM ever.

Those of you who have and trade Vanilla - what's the key here?!?! It isn't the hype that is drawing me to it - as I have had multiples of Coffee, Bramble, and "straight" and LOVE THEM - so I am sure I'll also love Vanilla and Rare if that ever happens. Short of offering $150 of beer for it - what do those with Vanilla REEEEEEEEALLLLLY want?

The never-to-be-made-again factor that causes people to hold on to their bottles dearly.

I can see that with Rare - but Vanilla? Other than "they said so", it could happen again right?

The key is most people with Vanilla won't trade it.

Problem is it was spread so thinly, the vast majority of people who have regular jobs & regular lives only could get a bottle or two. If this had been a "brewery release" where there was a four-bottle limit, & people could bring a mule, it would be much more readily available. But since you had to hunt-and-peck to scratch out a bottle or two - & because it's insanely delicious - it's much less apt to be traded.

And before people get all up in arms, this was a pure chance, luck of the moment, one time happening. And I had half of those, my brother-in-law the other half. I traded all but ONE away and honestly not for much (except my last, final one which I previously mentioned). My brother-in-law drank all of his. He loved that beer. This happened in Rockford, IL, and since then the beer climate has changed and there are wait lists everywhere. At the time this came out I told my sister to buy ANY and ALL of these if she came across them (I was in CA at the time). She went to two stores for shopping and came across this many without limits. She sent me this picture later that day. So again, pure luck

[edit 2] I have zero left of these btw.

Your opinion is correct - I trade the same beers for the others I mentioned which are clearly easier. I guess trying to go high multiple and 2x + $4$ isn't the right way to go about it. I need to figure out the right beers. The only SD release I can think of that might draw it then is BA Speedway. Other than that I might have to trade and trade and finally "trade up". Should have spent the $80! =)

As someone who found two bottles of Vanilla. Drank one with some friends and holding one, I guess it is entirely possible that it is brewed again but it is the "who knows" aspect of it. I actually considered putting mine up for trade but my buddy talked me out of it as he wants to do a tasting of Goose beers and we would of course include Vanilla even though we already tasted it. The fact that it may never be made again holds me back from giving it up. I know us Vanilla guys are gripping these with iron fists but I really can't see giving mine up at this point considering the aging of it now is probably almost perfect. My 08 BCBS are drinking perfect now, IMO. I realize this is probably not what you want to hear! If you lived closer I'd invite you over to my place in a heart beat when we do decide to do our tasting.

Well, wiith GI's beefed-up barreling program now in the final stages, you know they're putting this BCBS stuff out in much higher amounts, which means they're more than likely going to "make 'nilla again", along with above and beyond new twists (Bramble being one such example).

Of course, this is pure speculation, but founded on good base.

If you can, try to get an '08 BCBS asap and enjoy it as the weather cools there in CA. It was in its prime last year and I'm sure is going to be on the decline sooner than later...but as of a few months ago it was drinking un-freaking-believable. I'm sure you have enough CA ammo to grab at least one, and as stated, I would recommend trying to get one especially if you do love BCBS as you state. I have one left and am going to open it this Thanksgiving.

    Cheers!

Even if you came empty handed I'd still have you over just to let another BA have the chance to try Vanilla. Hell thats what its all about anyway, right?

I believe the reason they said they were not going to do the BCBVS again was because the vanilla beans wrecked havoc and was a bia to clean up. But I hope they do do it again (heh, do do)
