I didn't know what to expect when conducting this crude experiment, but I can tell you the different yeasts made noticeable differences in the finished beers. Both are good, but the US-05 one is noticeably clearer (go figure). The WLP-008 has more grapefruit/Amarillo presence. Here's the recipe if anyone is interested:

    8.00 lb Pale Malt (2 Row) Bel (3.0 SRM) Grain 66.67 %
    2.00 lb Munich Malt (9.0 SRM) Grain 16.67 %
    0.50 lb Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 4.17 %
    0.50 lb Crystal 55 (55.0 SRM) Grain 4.17 %
    0.25 lb Aromatic Malt (26.0 SRM) Grain 2.08 %
    0.25 lb Honey Malt (25.0 SRM) Grain 2.08 %
    1.00 oz Centennial [8.60 %] (Dry Hop 14 days) Hops -
    2.00 oz Columbus (Tomahawk) [13.90 %] (Dry Hop 14 days) Hops -
1.00 oz Chinook [13.00 %] (60 min) (First Wort Hop) Hops 47.3 IBU
    1.00 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] (Dry Hop 14 days) Hops -
    1.00 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (20 min) Hops 11.0 IBU
    1.00 oz Chinook [13.00 %] (15 min) Hops 21.4 IBU
    1.00 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (10 min) (Aroma Hop-Steep) Hops -
    2.00 oz Columbus (Tomahawk) [13.90 %] (10 min) (Aroma Hop-Steep) Hops -
    0.50 oz Amarillo Gold [8.50 %] (10 min) (Aroma Hop-Steep) Hops -
0.50 lb Sugar, Table (Sucrose) (1.0 SRM) Sugar 4.17 %

I would expect a significant difference whenever using different strains. Might expect drier more bitter beer from da-05. When did you brew each batch? Did you taste them side-by-side?

Like I said, both batches were identical, brewed back-to-back 2/7 and 2/14 and tasted side-by-side. Believe it or not, the US-05 wasn't really drier... in fact it finished 1 point higher (1.013) than the WLP-008 batch...again, go figure.

I brewed an IPA with WLP008 and it was the fruitiest IPA I have ever made. It reminded me of WLP005. I think this yeast would work well for a Bitter or a Mild. Take care.
