    Hey gang,

I could use a little local knowlege. I will be driving from Pittsburgh to Peoria, IL this coming Monday. Should be passing through Indy in the afternoon. I am not in any hurry and plan on stopping in Indy to hit a bottle shop and get some dinner and a few beers before I continue on. I have read a bunch of reviews and have been to a handful of places in Indy, but what I am trying to figure out is this. If I wanted to just get off the interstate one time and hit the best possible combo of 2 or 3 beer store / bar / breweys all at least sort of close to eachother, what is my best bet?

After doing a little homework, I was thinking I would maybe do Brugge and Kahn's on Keystone and maybe also swing by Upland tasting room. Is there a better combo than this that meets the requirement of all being at least in the same general section of the greater Indy area? It sounds like Brugge has great food and I like the idea that they have their own taps as well as local guest taps.

Second question: If you randomly pop into Upland tasting room, what are your odds of finding a lambic bottle or two to take home? Pretty slim?

Thanks for any help / suggestions.

    Cheers
    Ryan

your plan sounds good. you won't find a lambic bottle at Upland. you could drive a bit north to 20 Tap at 54th and College which is an awesome craft beer bar in that area. Brugge and Kahns Keystone are awesome. sounds like you know what you are doing already....cheers and enjoy!

Unfortunately Monday is my day off so I won't be at Kahns when you visit :slight_frown:

I second Twenty Tap, and it's just a few blocks from Brugge.

Can't help you on the lambic, but Brugge does have a damn fine sour on tap and they do growler fills.

I would suggest if you're trying to stay close to the interstate to try downtown. Both 65 and 70 are within a 2 minute drive of these places. There is a Crown Liquors downtown on Delaware with a garage that is less than a block away. In addition, Tomlinson Tap room is right there within a block, and some decent restaurants are very close too. Crown may not have the sheer variety that Kahn's does, and may be $1 or 2 more expensive, but has a very nice selection or locals and regionals.

Also, Sun King is pretty close...maybe within walking distance...not sure.

Brugge does not do growler fills, but Pooka should be compulsory drinking for any sour-obsessed beer traveler finding themselves in Indianapolis with a couple extra hours to occupy on the finer things in life.

I was there on Saturday and watched them fill a growler.

It wasn't for a regular customer then. It could have been a friend of someone that works there or knows Ted. They don't fill growlers or provide growlers for just anyone.

Brugge had a really good imperial porter with cardomom last weekend, if it's still on tap I'd get that, a pooka with a duck sandwich and call it a day.

I asked today over Twitter if the growler policy had changed and they were filling them now (which would have been nice news for a couple of my trading buddies if so). Ted said, and I quote, "Fuck no."

I only know the very south side, so i can't suggest much on your way, but parti pak down here has an amazing selection, and the crown on southport has not let me down.

If you know when you will be through, and you head down the south way, I'd meet up if my schedule allows.

Ah, I see. Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing him pay for it.

How do I get on that short list?

Was just visiting Indy a few weeks ago and loved Flat 12 and its right off the highway. Sun King is only a few blocks away though we weren't able to stop there. Kahns was a great liquor store so hit it if you can. We ate and drank at Brugge one night and the food was pretty good and the beer was good but they only had a few beers on tap so not a huge variety (of their stuff, at least).

I would suggest Flat 12, but they're not open on Mondays.
