I bought a couple 6ers of Rumble a couple months ago, kept it in the fridge since then. Had one a few weeks ago, it tasted slightly off, but I didn't think much of it. Had one a week ago, it foamed over upon opening and had a distinct Brett-ish flavor, almost no detectable hop or barrel taste or smell. Tried the 3rd bottle with my brother last night, it also foamed over and we both agreed it tasted/smelled totally off and funky; drain pour.

Opened the 4th bottle right after, expecting to dump it, and it was good. Maybe some very slight off notes, but 95% good.

Anyone else had similar experiences? I've got 8 more bottles, and hoping I can get one or two that are right....

I have detected similar things from many wood aged IPAs, I think the barrels funk up the beer a bit. Not sure if it is intended though.

It wouldn't be a surprise since this year's BA Yeti was super infected. Maybe there have been some QC issues up at GD lately.

I would be surprised if it was truly infected in the sense that you're suggesting. The beer is aged on oak chips in steel tanks - not barrel aged. Also the aging is, relatively, quite brief given the nature of the base beer.

And it very well could be pasteurized (anyone feel free to correct me on that one though).

EDIT: I quite actually don't know what I'm talking about though... these are all just sort of hunches and speculations...

Interesting. This year's BA Yeti was the first major one I've experienced from them. I really wasn't aware of any big QC issues from years past.
