Abu Nawas just landed Off Color Brewing (brewery of John Laffler - former Goose Island brewer) out of Chicago as an account. Hopefully we start seeing some of their beers in Iowa soon!

Just had my 1st Hopslam tonight. Great tasting beer! 20.00 bucks for a sixer seems steep, but you would pay more than that for a bottle in any bar or restaurant for any kind of beer. So, way to go BELL'S!!

    Gone by 7:30 pm.

Of course the one day I don't check their twitter is the day they get Hopslam in. Or maybe it was their tweet two days ago that said "later this month" it was coming in. By that kind of wording, I didn't expect it so soon. "later this week" might have been a more accurate way of putting it to their customers. Whoops! Oh well.

Hey man, chin up! There are plenty of fresh, delicious IPA's out there just as good IF NOT BETTER than Hopslam! Fresh Hop Sutra anyone? Take care and happy drinking man!

I've said it before, but anyone that's in the Cedar Rapids area do yourself a favor and visit Bricks once in a while. They have probably the best tap selection in town. They always have a couple Belgians on too. The nice thing about them is that they have (somewhat) proper glassware and serving size(somewhat means better than anybody else in town), a (somewhat) knowledgable staff, and good service. A couple of other places might have the hype but these guys are doing good things.

I've only had Scurry from Off Color. It was decent. What should I be on the lookout for?

Not sure what Abu Nawas will be getting, but I have heard that Troublesome is very good. It's a sour wheat/gose type beer.

Thanks. Picked up a couple bottles. Not much came in it doesn't sound like. Not a bad beer at all. I don't know if there's a relationship with Abu Nawas but it's kind of cool that Iowa was the first market outside of Chicago to get Off Color.

Also, I'm laughing at how Hopslam is a beer that people who don't even like good beer are eating up. Places that don't even care about craft beer are getting kegs and they seem to not be lasting very long anywhere. Not that it's a bad thing, just funny.

There was aTGI Friday's in Wisconsin that just had a Founders Tap Takeover this week. I shit you not. What's next, Bells Tap Takeover at Applebees?

Also heard a rumor that Johnson Brothers is bringing Central Waters to Iowa soon. Is there any truth to this or the Great Lakes rumor? I have my doubts.

Central Waters isn't a rumor, it's basically confirmed. Just waiting for J Bros to make the official announcement, which will hopefully be any day now!. I haven't heard anything about Great Lakes coming.

Maybe somebody had them confused. That is awesome! Will we be getting their barrel aged offerings and if we do will it be close to the price that they are in Wisconsin/other areas? Quality/Price the Central Waters barrel aged beers stack up to the big dogs IMO.

Have not heard of we'll get their barrel aged beers or not, but I would almost guarantee we do, just not sure how much and where.

I at least hope we get Illumination with their initial launch in Iowa, if not their barrel aged shit.

I don't know if $3.25 a bottle is decent considering it's $10 or so a sixer in Chicago from what I've seen. Or is that the price we pay in order for Abu Nawas to get these good beers here?

I would say marking up a six pack an additional $8 is ridiculous. I've heard CW to Iowa is pretty much complete, as it's something that is on an order sheet according to a friend. Not sure what's all on there tho, I'd have to ask.

It was a one and done last year, and we got even more this year so I would guess it's just one delivery.

that would be my belief. Moylan's Double IPA sells in the area around the brewery for ~$6, but is $9 here. That's a 30% mark up on a bomber so I'm not super surprised to see an $8 markup on a 6-pack, although that is quite a jump in price and the beer didn't travel nearly as far as the Moylan's example.

Good to hear. I really like ZeeLander. I had it on tap for the one of the Iowa home games last fall and I may have preferred it just slightly over Sue.

There's something about the aroma that keeps it a couple of notches below Sue for me.
