Right lads, with Todd’s encouragement, I’m taking the leap of making this thread. I know there are only a handful of us actively using this site, but it would be nice to talk to ye more and give recommendations about the best stuff being made in Ireland at the minute. It pains me to go onto the local section and see each review just being Guinness beer after Guinness beer, so hopefully we can promote the consumption of the many wonderful Irish craft beers that are out there.

What beer am I drinking at this very moment? Well, I’m not... But tonight I shall be cracking open a can of Hope’s new limited edition nitro stout. Their limited editions have been quite good in the last few months, leagues better than what is, let’s face it, a pretty poor core range for the most part. Hopefully the lads down in Howth have pulled off another good limited edition with this one.

So, what are all ye drinking then ?

Good man, misteil. Good initiative. I've been lurking on and off (more off than on) here since 2016 and this is my first post.
I'm not drinking anything right now, but I recently had Cuveé L&L by Land & Labour, a mixed-fermentation project by Galway Bay's head brewer. I'm a bit biased because I am a huge fan of spontaneous and mixed fermentation brew, but it's an intense oaky, vinous and tart brew. Massive.

Well, this thread is yet to start thriving, but it's early doors yet. I shall do my part. Northern Irish beer today rather than Irish but it's all good. Drinking a beer from the lads up in Holywood, Co. Down, Modest Beer. One of their pale ales was part of The Beer Club's advent calendar last year, and was probably the biggest surprise, in terms of expected quality against actual quality. Excellent pale ale, and amazing value for money (all of their beers seem to be quite cheap). Today I am drinking their single hop Meridian pale ale. No where near as good as that beer from last December sadly, but it does have a few months on it, so I guess it can only be so good. Still, will try more of their beers in the future, see if they can pull off another beer as nice as there 'Almost Tropical' pale ale. Cheers.

Great idea for a thread folks.

Had the Galway Bay Voyager NZ IPA tonight as well as a can of one of my staples Larkins Pale Ale.

The Voyager NZ IPA is a lovely beer, nice bit of dankness with some grape and gooseberry. Great stuff.

Not drinking any Irish beers at the moment but the last draft beer I had in a pub was in at the Legal Eagle in Dublin on Jan 28, 2020

Came home (Los Angeles) the next day and came down with some crud and didn't do much for a couple of weeks. By the time I felt like going to a pub things started to look a bit dicey, so I didn't.

Got my second shot last week so I may venture out to a local brewery tap room next week...

Congrats on the vaccine - time to look up the taplists

How did you end up in the Legal Eagle, a lovely pub but not one you'd usually randomly stumble upon?

To be honest, I don't remember exactly -- a mention on the internet somewhere I'd guess. I've enjoyed by visits there.

I almost hesitate to bring it up because it is quite pretentious for somebody from half way around the world, but I do a website of places I've visited or plan to visit: www.BeerGuideDUB.com -- originally it was for some friends that were visiting and I wanted to give them some non-touristy places to check out.

Of course it is out of date with the pandemic.

That’s very cool and seems pretty up to date from what I know, although I imagine there may be a few covid casualties over the last year unfortunately.

I think that is going to be true just about everywhere, unfortunately. Even if places close, hopefully the demand is still there and new places will open -- not just Dublin but everywhere...

Happy Friday folks. Couple of new ones for me tonight.

White Hag Mosaic Smash - very solid IPA, not picking out huge specific mosaic from this but it’s still a quality beer.

Rye River - Miami J. This is lovely, better than I remember it from previous years. Would love this to be available year round.

had this the other day, not a bad effort at all from rye river, really need to try more of their small batch stuff (not too keen on the mcgargle’s range).

I’m enjoying Whiplash’s new brown ale ‘The Ocean Wide’ tonight. Very very good stuff from the best brewer in the land, in my humble opinion.

Yeah I can appreciate the value aspect of the McGargles stuff but would be nice to have more of the small batch stuff available on a regular basis.

Won’t get any argument from me about Whiplash - that Brown Ale is lovely.

Whiplash are in a league of their own. Specially with their Stouts and Porters. Another one who's starting to catch my eye is Otterbank from Donegal. Interesting experiments with brettanomyces.

A couple of new ones tonight from Dead Centre

Gentle Chaos - IPA - nice candied tangerine and tropical fruit. Good stuff.

Concrete Jungle - IPA. Nice IPA, the lactose rounds it out well without making it overly sweet.

Whiplash Ratio - IPA. Classic Whiplash lovely soft mouthfeel with nice pineapple notes. Great stuff as usual.

Planning on picking up a can of this soon, I look forward to it.

I see you have 0 reviews on your profile, how come you don’t review or tick any of the beers you have ?

I’ve been using Untappd before I signed up to post here so I just continue to keep track and rate the beers I drink there. More habit than anything to be honest.

    Great to see this thread!
I've been on BA a long time + often wished we had more happening in the forums for Ireland.
I hope we can keep it going.

This Whiplash is lovely; summery + fun - I wouldn't have thought you could do much with a witbier, but it's a clever, modern take.
There've been a couple of duds from the new brewery but I think they're worked it all out.
Looking forward to their new range of sours.
