I read the beer review section and the beer decription by the brewery used oak aged alot but not barrel aged.
Can someone clear this up for me?

I guess the bottle does say whiskey barrels but the descripion on the beer advocate page leaves all that out.

    How is the whiskey presence?

The same with the berserker - the web site said barrel sthat contained wine and or whiskey the the bottle says oak aged.

    Strange

According to their web site, they use barrels from multiple sorces (e.g., wine, whisky, etc.)

Can't tell you about the whisky presense as I've not had the beer but I wouldn't expect it to be prominent given the variety of liquids aged in the barrels previously.

I had an '11 Arctic Devil about a month ago and the whiskey presence is noticeable, only slightly less prominent than the barleywines I've had that were aged only in whiskey/bourbon barrels. So I would guess the whiskey barrels make up a large percentage of the barrels used. I could also taste a bit of the wine barrel aging, but that was not nearly as prominent imo.

Ive never heard that it was a blend of multiple barrels. I always thought it was more like Bligh's and only whiskey barrel aged. Thx for info!

    Cheers!

I read an announcement on the old site saying that it was a whiskey/brandy blend this time. I definitely got some brandy notes.

    Thanks for all the info.

What do the bottles usually go for price wise?

The beer is phenomenal. Just opened an '11 a couple nights ago and the whiskey was there (as was some brandy) but not overpowering. I wish I had more.

It appears I didn't taste any wine barrel aging - maybe I confused it for the brandy barrel flavor. Luckily, I've never claimed to have a great palate.

We cracked a '10 and '11 side by side Saturday night at a tasting. '11 was delicious, '10 was completely infected.

Total bummer abut the '10. I will keep that in mind when seeking vintages of this.

Yeah I was super bummed as I love trying a mini vertical of bottles. That '11 rocked though.

Wow, I heard nothing about infection issues.
I had a couple trades set up but now I better clarify the years.
