A beer advocate - Less about the "push/encourage/ask/pursuade" and more about the "Beer community dedicated to supporting and promoting beer through education and appreciation."

Bottle chasing is not fun or exciting. Thank god I'm done with that. Being a BA is pretty rewarding. Great brew and great friends!

Back to the topic which I missed answering! Yes being an advocate is fun and exciting in many ways. And I notice we all have degrees of dedication to it. I being simple I let things happen as they may. I rarely search anything. I try to have a good relationship with beer managers just to show that there is others out there who enjoy craft.

On a side note, one issue we face that I have noticed is so many of the stores that are carrying craft beer necessarily do not have someone who owns or runs the place who sticks up or in the least enjoys craft beer. I always pictured myself if I was to own a bottle shop, I would work everyday, and enjoy talking with many people.

I think I enjoy the hunt almost more than the payoff. I hunt for beers that I've put in my "cellar" and haven't touched for over a year. My GF thinks I'm crazy. I used to live in DC and was on the hunt for KBS for almost a year before I found it. Bought a 4 pack and invited my beer friends over to try it. We all enjoyed splitting the 4 pack. Probably wouldn't buy it again ($26 for a pack is steep) but the hunt and pay off was fun.

Before I lived here (California), I was over here for a job interview and was dying to try Pliny due to the hype. I even went to Philly beer week and still never managed to try any. Long story short I was over here for interviews and inbetween I would stop off in beer stores/bars to look for Pliny. I finally found a bar with it, (Beer Revolution in Oakland) and made the trip after an interview. Beer was good (hype has gone too far IMO) but the experience and the hunt was worth it. Lot of fun IMO.
