Is it me or is liking a hot BA brew a rare thing?

I have some BB that's been aged, and IMO it was far better fresh and on tap than what I have now, It's so mellow the Bourbon part has all but died. I had a few aged KBS and aging a year seemed to do little to change it's profile. I like the big Bourbon hit and a little hot for me is more desirable in Stouts, Porters and such. BA IPA"s are new to me and the big Bourbon hit is distracting to the max, maybe that's an acquired taste too, but how do you age an IPA? If te Bourbon dies a little, the hops will fade too, and all being equal the Bourbon still seems likely to win out. I'm more into drinking the stuff, and I'm far too undisciplined to have a beer cellar, I'd like to, but I can't help myself.

What Bourbon IPAs have you been drinking? I'm not too familiar with them. And you like the Bourbon taste in other beers, but not in the IPA ones? Maybe just don't drink that beer again.

Foothills brewed up 5 barrels of BA Seeing Double, ABV right at 9.5%. It's a bourbon bomb. Bourbon seems to go better IMO with styles like Porters/Stouts/ some Brown Ale's. I can't find any hops or bitterness thru the Bourbon on this one, perhaps it's just a bad attempt at a BA DIPA.. They also have some BA Hoppyum coming out this week, maybe the hops can punch thru some of the Bourbon, but we'll see. Bourbon should be a mellow marriage unto the style, I'm not sure bourbon will even mix well with hop forward brews.

Maybe just a style you don't like? And more time might not improve that either.

Its a rare thing in the cellar forum, where everything can and will be aged.
I like both, but generally prefer fresh BA beers. I like the heat and forward bourbon flavor. I aslo purposley age some for when i'm in the mood for a more mellow generally chocolate flavor. Plus i like to have fresh and aged to break open for non beer geek friends, because even if they don't like the beer the can appreciate the difference in flavors.

Huh-funny you should mention BB, as I recently had a 2 year old bottle that blew away every experience I'd had with this beer fresh (and even fresh, it's one of my favorite beers). In general, though, I agree that many bourbon barrel beers benefit from a bit of a "hot" bourbon flavor. Case by case for me, and I guess we just have different tastes when it comes to BB.
