I'm visiting a friend in southern Nassau County in a few weeks, and I've been looking at beermenus to see what's available in bottle shops and bars in the surrounding area. I've noticed that there are quite a few places that sell Cigar City Brewing products, including Jai Alai, Florida Cracker, and Maduro Brown. I'm planning on grabbing some of those while I'm down there, but I'm wondering how often the more limited brews make it to the area, if at all. Anyone have any tips? I've been desperate to try the Cubano-Style Espresso Brown Ale ever since a friend alerted me to its existence.

On another note, we're planning on visiting the Black Sheep Ale House - are there any other craft bars in the area we should be aware of?

    Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the island (and NY in general) doesn't see many large format or limited release CCB beers. I've seen big sound on the shelf and a couple of their collaborations, but nothing crazy. There was a stretch where their beers weren't available at all in the area. You'll definitely be able to find Jai Alai and Maduro, but check the dates on the Jai Alai; it often sits on the shelves for months. I don't think the Cubano Brown sees a large distro. I got one in a trade with a guy from FL, it's pretty good.

The Good Life in Massapequa usually has some good stuff. If you feel like heading east, Hoptron Brewtique is a pretty cool place. There's also Republic in Farmingdale. Check their website for a draft list, sometimes they have some great stuff.

I'd definitely recommend heading to Barrier Brewing in Oceanside. Their beers are on point, especially the fresh hoppy stuff.

The distributors are hit or miss, but I've had some luck at Beer City and other Superstar distributors. Others may have some more insight on shops. I've lived in the city for a few years now so I haven't hit up many distributors recently.

    Hope this helps. Cheers!

Beverage Plus is a good place to check out. Have also heard good things about Superstar Beverage. Agree with comment on checking out Barrier.

You didn't say where you're staying in Nassau but if Syosset is close by, Syosset Beverage (https://www.beermenus.com/places/3158-syosset-beverage) is my favorite beer store in the area, and although it's in Suffolk, Shoreline Beverage in Huntington (https://www.beermenus.com/places/8712-shoreline-beverage) is a great shop, too.

    Good luck!

In addition to the above listed recommendations, I would STRONGLY recommend a visit to Barrage Brewing in Farmingdale.
