Holiday party's are coming up- including my wife's. Is it rude of me to show up with my own beer to drink to ensure I am having good beer all night? OR do I just drink the crappy stuff that they have purchased with their own money and are offering out?

Definitely not rude. Just be sure to offer some.

I think it's rude unless the host said BYOB. If I take the time to plan a party, get a head count, then pay for beer for said head count - I'd be miffed if someone brought their own shit, meaning I wasted my money. Same as if they brought their own food. Suck it up and have Coors Light.

I think it's rude that they'd offer you swill like Miller Lite.

There are plenty of people who would be offended if you showed up at their house with your own beer, but who cares about them? Just bring something you wouldnt mind sharing. And enough of it to share.

Free beer is free beer, but if I were you I would let them know in advance that you'd like to bring some of your own beers. If they seem put off by it, don't bring them. If you bring your own beer, under any circumstances, bring enough to share. I'm cool with coming off like a snob, but not a selfish snob.

I think it is rude not to bring your own beer to a party. Is everyone just suppose to suck the hosts house dry of all liquor and food? It is not rude at all to bring a six pack or two for you and to share with anyone else interested.

I never saw a problem with it as long as you brought some extras to pass a long...

I always bring my own beer to holiday parties. I bring enough to share, if anyone else wants to drink good beer.

Depends on context. At young college parties and such it probably doesn't matter. But a typical adult party is different, especially if it is a colleague situation.

Well, you're not supposed to go empty handed. Whatever you bring is a gift of sorts, and it's up to the host's discretion to set aside for personal use or put it with the other beverages that are being offered.

This is one reason I always bring wine. Wine is respected. It comes across as a better gift unless somehow you have a rare beer enthusiast as the host. I'd say that about half the time it is uncorked & served, and the other half the host sets it somewhere else for themselves.

The only time I bring my own beer to consume is if the invitation explicitly indicates to BYOB.

Do vegetarians eat turkey when invited to Thanksgiving Dinner because it'd be "rude" not to?

Sorry, not a good analogy. While you're at it, might as well think Jewish guests are rude for passing on the holiday ham.

I usually bring a sixer of Sam if I know it's a party with the "Bud Light" crowd which covers the majority of parties down here and accept the fact that I may only get one or two before it's gone. It usually goes untouched and I get em all!
