We want to host a fest in the Midwest and we're looking for your suggestions.

    Basic criteria:
    • Spring 2019.
    • One-day, two-sessions.
    • No more than 1,500 attendees per session.
    • The city should have a well-established or growing beer scene with ample accommodation and transportation options in the area.
    • Can't step on any toes, so don't suggest a city that already has a major fest during the spring.

So what Midwest city should we take the next BeerAdvocate fest to?

I think I recall reading that Columbus is within an 8 hour drive and an hour flight to over 40% of the U.S. population. There is a Beerfest, but it is held in Feb and sometime in Summer. There’s an outdoor festival in May I believe.

Indianapolis is a great convention city. Huge downtown convention center with tons of hotels, restaurants, and bars all within walking distance. I believe all the bigger beer festivals are either winter or late summer/fall.

Chicago. Not sure how you can beat the location, beer, flights, hotels, easy transportation around town. Pizza and Italian roast pork sandwiches , seals it there.

All of the above. If I attend I'll be driving so air travel is not a sticking point though I think my fellow attendees might prefer a place with an active local beer scene.

My vote would be for some city in Ohio. Columbus has already been mentioned and that would be a nice choice. Perhaps Cincinnati would be an even better choice. And then Cleveland is a possibility as well.

Perhaps contact all three and see which is the best deal/value for having a beer festival? Do Chambers of Commerce or Tourism Boards compete for these sorts of events?

    Cheers!

St. Louis would provide me with my long awaited excuse to go to Side Project, but Chicago would be tough to match. Just so much going on there and ease of travel to (and while in) make it a difficult city to beat. Not sure if they have conflicting fests already though.
I know the conventions I have attended in Chicago have been great!

Minneapolis would be a great choice. Surly put the city on the beer map and has long been established as a top-notch brewery on the craft beer scene. After Surly laid the ground work, the city is now bursting at the seams with new breweries, most of which are churning out great releases. MSP loves its beer and would be a great host city for the event!

While strictly speaking not quite in the Midwest, would you consider Pittsburg, PA. Great city with excellent access from Mid-Atlantic states, as well. Alternatively, I think one of the Ohio cities would be a similar choice.
