I've noticed over the past few months that Jim Koch of the Boston Beer Company has filed several Form 4 with the SEC documenting sales of his Boston Beer Company shares.

I do wonder what is going on at the Boston Beer Company. Why all the sales of shares?

Most likely something to do with the BBC/DFH 'partnership'.

Eh, he's a 70-year-old billionaire generating a few million bucks from some stock sales. Probably wants to buy a vacation house or a yacht or something like that. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Because owning millions of dollars in stock is nothing at all like owning millions of dollars in dollars. There are as many reasons he may want to sell some stock this time as there are shares he owns. You can't take it with you.

If you are suggesting Koch is bailing on his company prior to some bad news, that is illegal and would be incredibly apparent as well as incredibly stupid.

Have a Boston Lager and don't overthink the motives of the obscenely wealthy CEO class.

    Cheers.

I am happy for him, to make so much money off a great business he deserves the rewards from his years of hard work.

All of the above points are valid.

In addition, according to one of the recent S4 filings Koch implemented a 10b5-1 trading plan on August 7, 2019. So, you might expect to see more sales, as well as conversions of his Class B shares into Class A, and subsequent sales.

The plan should alleviate any concerns about insider trading.

The stock is double the price of what it was two years ago and everyone on Wall Street says a market correction has to come in the next few years...what better time to cash out some stock?

Interesting that he's converting Class B into Class A. Which is he selling, the Class B, the Class A or some mixture of both?

Yeah, he's only 50. There's a ways to go before any worries of succession become imperative.

Selling Class A or converting Class B to A and then selling them. Class B is convertible to A on a 1:1 basis whenever he wants. I don’t think he can “sell” Class B. They represent his control over the board and other matters that would typically be voted on by Class A shareholders.

Jim Koch has a JD and MBA, both from Harvard. I'm not one who worships elite education but by any measure the dude is crazy smart.
Martha Stewart on the other hand double majored at Columbia, so what the hell do I know?
    Cheers

Good for him, and for me I rode there was a better beer out there in 1984 or so. It started my slow movement away from AALs. His beers might seem to be a bit tame by today’s standards, but he was taking a big chance at the time.

Say what you will about Martha Stewart, she didn't start any disastrous wars of choice, contribute to any major financial crisis, OR bury Nobel Pils.

I think he was referencing with all that education, she still screwed the pooch on an insider trading transaction. Which amazes me that she is worth more than 1/2 billion and tried to illegally avoid a loss on less than 50K.

Did her time, and came out fine throwing punches again, but yea the risk reward was very low for someone with her wealth.
