I saw the one for Creature Comforts on Instagram

Starting July 1st you will be able to purchase tours at the brewery that include souvenir beer to go! Come get your very own #creaturecrowlerwith up to 72oz of whichever brews we have on draft!

think is should read 64oz based on the law. Does anyone else know what other breweries are doing?

    @WckdVbz
The law changed to be able to have a take home souvenir from the tour. I thought it was 64oz but 72oz would be better. I have heard that Burnt Hickory is doing take home bottles (Killdozer) that day, but haven't seen it in writing. So basically the tour will have a tiered price. One price for the tour and one for the tour and souvenir.

It's 72oz mainly so that breweries can sell a 6 pack (6x12oz=72oz). It doesn't matter if its 2 32oz growlers/crowlers, bombers, 6 packs, or any size range of ml's, the cap is 72oz's for offsite consumption.

Burnt Hickory will be doing sales on July 1st of Killdozer, and whatever else they currently have in their fridge (Noggin Knocker, Charred Walls, March to the Sea, and current distro).

Chiming in to agree that it is 72oz.

They can't charge for that beer, so I'm curious how they're differentiating the souvenir tour from the regular tour. I'm sure they came up with something creative.

At BHB, the price for the "souvenirs" will be based on what beers you request. Growlers, bombers or some combination of both. Ala carte "pricing". Their is no restriction in the regulations as to cost and combinations of "souvenir tours".

Such a silly way to have to do this, but overall this is wonderful. Looking forward to bottle release tours!

They are pretty clear on the fact that the "souvenirs" are free. That means that a tour with a crowler and a tour with a 6-pack can't have different prices unless they figure out a differentiating salable item. They can charge for tours now (couldn't before), so maybe they can give tours of different parts of the brewery, or you pay different rates for different tour guides, I don't know.

How much does a six pack of Tropicalia typically run? I have a friend heading to Athens next week and want to make sure I give him enough cash.

    From Burnt Hickory's Facebook

Everyone knows that JULY 1st is a big day for craft beer in the great state of Georgia.

On JULY 1st we will be able to charge you for a tour. With that tour you can get 36 (before it was 32) oz's of beer samples and also be able to take home a Souvenir Facility Tour Package of up to 72oz of beer in multiple containers.

    Here's a sample breakdown.

    1. 10.00 with a clean glass that you bring to the brewery you can drink on site during a tour, 36 oz's of beer. I know you have a ton of glasses from the ones you bought from us and every other brewery in the state in yr cupboard, Right? We will honor any brewery's glass btw! If you don't have a glass, we'll provide BHB plastic with the option to pay 5.00 for a new BHB beer glass.

    2. You will also be allowed to pick out up to 72 oz's of BHB beer from our tasting room cooler or get a growler fill. We will have 32oz BHB custom growlers avail for purchase or you can bring any other clean growler from another store or brewery. It's that simple.

Every beer will have a certain per oz value and we will allow you to "Build Your Own Souvenir" package. Basically. .. 32oz of Zeke = BLANK. One bomber of KILLDOZER = BLANK. We will then add it up and charge you accordingly. There won't be crazy swings in prices just basic tier level beer value at established prices. We are now figuring out EXACT pricing to be posted in Tasting room.

    3. BIG NEWS! We will be OPEN at MIDNIGHT on JULY 1st!
YES. OPEN AS SOON AS THE LAW GOES INTO EFFECT.
We will have BHB VINTAGE bombers as part of the tour that will last from 12:00 AM to 1:15AM. This is a SOUVENIR TOUR PACKAGE only. NO SAMPLES of BEER to be CONSUMED ON SITE. ALL BOTTLES MUST BE TAKEN AND CONSUMED OFF SITE

    Here's the VINTAGE LIST.

99% of the places in Athens have them for $9.99. If he strikes out in the main bottle shops (Five Points, Js, Village, ABC) tell him to check the Krogers, Gas stations, and the less popular shops (Perry's, Cork and Bottle, Tall Boy, etc.). I saw a bunch of the 6/16 batch around today.

Yes they can. The law states that breweries can charge varying fees for the tours provided that the fees are charged at the beginning of the tour. It goes on to say that the souvenirs given as part of a tour package may not be considered a sale of alcoholic beverages.

Some of the breweries are getting creative with this. The law says nothing about the number of tours you can sell to a person in a day, only about the amount of samples and souvenirs that can be provided. Wild Heaven will be doing tours at varying levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and will have the beers available to go ranked in these levels. You can go in and get a tasting tour then decide you want some beer to take with you and go back and buy a Bronze, Silver, Gold tour.

I know Three Taverns is putting the finishing touches on their setup, and as posted above BHB will be doing a Midnight event on 07/01 where you can get beer to go.

I know that you're focusing on the line

and that makes sense. I know it's there to delineate the difference between selling beer and free souvenirs. The part that concerns me is the definition of free souvenir.

If Burnt Hickory, for example, is saying up front at the beginning of the tour that you will pay BLANK for Zeke or BLANK for Killdozer, I don't understand how you could argue those souvenirs are complimentary.

I fully understand that my interpretation here is flawed and obviously breweries are taking the approach of selling their beer and just calling it a tour. I just don't understand how that is compatible with the phrasing of the bill.

I see what you're saying and I think a lot of this is going to be seeing what is allowed within the law as it's written. I know the brewers and the GCBG have had a lot of calls to discuss what they could and should do. Guess we'll see how this all works out after 07/01!

"PAY" is a bad word. The FACILITY TOUR SOUVENIR PACKAGE can be up to 72oz of packaged BHB beer to take for offsite consumption. You are paying for the TOUR that comes with different choices of what beer you want to take home. KILLDOZER is a 13% BBA Barleywine we produce once a year, ZEKE is our pale ale. A tour sample package that has a KILLDOZER in it would by all accounts have to cost more. Think of it like tours of "GRACELAND". Several different tiers (Gold, Silver, Bronze, "Mega fried peanut butter and banana sandwich" levels) of tours with different complimentary items.

This is new ground and i'm sure it will be clearer as we all move along.
