reading the fb comments is so sad. ppl are such jerks about things like this. I keep seeing entitlement and then don't take away my 8 pack. uhm, we've all been on lines where they lower it mid line. only a select greedy few complain and the wealth is spread, which is a better representation of the community. my friend lives 20 ish away. still planning on going and if it's insane I'll just bounce. but small limits announced before so it'll last at least most of the day or a lottery, even if just for remaining would be cool. I'd like to try one of the varients. if anyone's cracking one at ebf, hit me up. I'll be there fri and sat night. my bday is on sat. and I'll be bringing stuff too.

Keep banging that drum. By leaving the door open for day of sales, Kane may have exacerbated the line problem, because now people know they are fighting over less product due to the amount pre-sold. Odd that they would pre-sell but not go all the way and just pre-sell every last bottle.

Got mine. No line for me, but I know lots of people that are making plans to be out there in the wee hours precisely because they got shut out.

I guess another option is having a members club at a certain price which would guarantee you first dibs at any bottle release. I'm not upset at being shut out, but merely brainstorming ideas. I have more beer than I can drink in the fridge right now and my wife is probably going to be happy more isn't coming...

Bets on whether or not we get to read a story this weekend of how the first person in line for walk up sales also preordered 8 bottles and got beat down by an angry mob of shutouts?

The only useful information I've learned from the past 4 pages of comments is that people who use the word "butthurt" generally have very little to contribute.

While I'm happy they brewed whatever they wanted to, I wonder if in the future we'll see fewer variants. More base stout, smaller allotments and more drinkers!

That's the only part of it that bothers me. I stop at Kane twice a month at least for fills and I've picked up almost everything they have bottled since they started. I know why they did the bpt but like you said a lot of people will be there Sunday and not be back for another year. Such is life. I'll still make my trips there.

I'm sure some people will try to double dip(or is it triple dip if you got an eight pack?) but I'm hoping to show up, grab my bottles and get out of there somewhat quickly. Maybe grab some glassware. No need to be greedy.

I feel like 90% of the people claiming they're never giving Kane their business after this will be at the brewery next weekend or for their next bottle release. Some people have nothing better to do than complain.

What part of the brewery does my support keep on? There are tons of us who get growler fills at our liquor store, order Kane whenever we see it at our bars, but according to you "local" guys our patronage is less valid due to the proximity of where we live? That's some fine advocacy you got going on there!

Very true! I'm normally only at the brewery in the summer but a bar down the street from my work quite frequently has Kane on tap and I get my growler fills from a bunch of places.

That is the truth. I definitely hoped to score some of the release and I'll probably get a bottle eventually but I'd rather have an awesome brewery in my area to enjoy on a regular basis and miss out on something occasionally then to have a place that makes crappy beer full time. :grinning:

For those asking for a lottery, this kind of felt like as lottery, no? I was clicking refresh at 11:59:59 along with the rest of the 1000+ people hoping for tix, 500 got tix, 500+ got shut out. Even though I missed, I still spent only about 15 minutes from the comfort of my office, so I still think it was the best way to do it. I'm disappointed, but happy Kane did it this way. I'll be heading out to the brewery real soon, but I do not plan on camping out this weekend for walk up sales. But good luck to those who do, Cheers!

Now if only all the special little snowflakes on Facebook could share this sentiment.
I think for everyone hoping to just get in at 10am and get out with their bottles on Sunday would be wise to maybe show up a bit later. I have a feeling it's going to be a shitshow.

Im with you, just grabbing my bottles and leaving. Unless the line for growler fills isnt too bad, then I will fill a couple of my Kane growlers with some beer for football.

I didn't say that others don't support them but a lot of people who will be there probably don't. I'm happy you back Kane and I'm happy they have grown as a brewery. I've been to releases before where lines have been crazy (street green). I make trips to other half on a regular basis because they make awesome beer. You just hope that those people keep supporting after that day. I wasn't taking shots at people that don't physically show up at the brewery regularly, just the ones that get one thing just to turn around and probably trade anyway.

I was trying to beat this drum earlier that doing tix is just basically a lottery of browser requests. Whoever gets lucky enough to sneak inside that millisecond window is the winner. I think there is a large # of folks that didn't understand that going in & thus are upset. A real lottery would at least set expectations more appropriately but I don't think anyone can blame Kane at this point.

    From Kane:

Regarding the pre-sale this morning: we've spoken with Brown Paper Ticket several times and there was no reported glitches or problems with the site. We understand some of you are reporting that you experienced problems and we passed that on to them and they have their development team looking in to it. For those unfamiliar with BPT, it is used by a number of breweries for pre-sales with no issues—which is why we went with them.

BPT ticket is telling us that there were over 14,000 hits to the page around noon and it just sold-out quickly. Our preliminary review of the transaction list didn't reveal anything questionable about the transactions that were completed.

We share your frustration. There is no perfect way to release these beers. We continue to work to find better ways and believe this was the best option given the physical limitation of our brewery space, building capacity and parking. We will continue to increase our production of these beers as capacity allows. This year's pre-sale alone was nearly 4,000 bottles, a considerable increase from last year's total, with lower limits. I know this doesn't help those that were shut-out but it at least sheds some light on the situation

And there you go. 4,000/8 pack is 500 people. With 14,000 hits, that's a 3.5% chance of getting the 8 pack. Even if the limit was a 4pk, then your chance is only 7.1% with 14,000 hits. Demand is huge!!!!

Thanks for sharing this info Kane! I would have never guessed 14,000 hits!

I think this was done as fairly as possible considering last years debacle. If you got bottles this year as I did, you were probably happy with the system. If you got shut out, then you probably think that it was rigged, or something to that extent. I for one will be picking up my allotment on Sunday, and sharing them with my friends. After all, that is what this is about. Sharing great beer with good friends. Sure it sucks that people didn't get any but no release is ever perfect unless there is enough for everybody. Kane doesn't have the physical space to store enough barrels for everyone to be happy. Either go back on Sunday and try to get some extra bottles, or go share one of the other great 1000 beers out there with some friends.

14k hits is impressive any which way you look at it. Explanation seems simple, and straightforward economics — supply vs. demand in a free market economy. The demand is clearly present, and we can only hope that it will in turn, equivocate to more of a supply.

Just think for a second about the prospect of that large a crowd showing up. Now granted, there were people with multiple devices trying to log on and some logging on who would not have otherwise driven to Kane. But divide it by say 10 and you still had 1400 people lining up. Divide by 5 and you have nearly 3000 people lining up. And I am sure there were some people who were unable to log on at noon who would have driven up as well.

Just shows you the demand for this release and the fact that majority of people any way were not going to be happy with end result.

I would have liked to see a magic Kane wheel and you step up and give it a spin to decide the single bottle you get. Just kidding but that would be fun to see what variant or base version you receive

Is the line for picking up that bad? I can't imagine everyone showing up at 8 am waiting to pick up an allotment. The day of sales I can understand but I have to think the pick up line will flow much quicker. It's have an ID ready take your allotment and leave. We don't have to pay again

14,000 hits, not sure if they mean individual users though, the amount of us that refreshed at least 5-10 times minimum at noon, probably makes that number a little lower.

comp / phones same time too. ppl definitely did that. I wish I did. don't have a laptop at the moment. but connection on my phone wireless is great. I got in 4x. but crashed when I clicked to buy and sold out all 4. I hope they announce how many bottles and limits. if this was a sizable amount of the batch and they have 2+, I may not even bother.

I missed it too, o well

I actually kept trying like 5-10 minutes after and it gave me mini heart attacks, because about twice, there was saying there was some available and to chose to add it to my cart. But when i did so, it came back saying i added what was unavailable haha.

All in all, meh, it stinks I wont be getting any this year, but hey, theres so much awesome beer out there, missing out on just one isnt too big a deal.

Wow, those FB post are priceless. Entertaining as they are it really is disheartening to see the way people react to this. I'm sorry if I'm hurting feelings, but honestly people, there are so many more important things in the world than not getting a beer. Is this what craft beer has come to? I get shut out of a bottle release so I throw a tantrum? Add this to the shady behavior of others who hoard/mule/etc. and it just becomes a shit show. These bottle releases are the craft beer version of those Walmart Black Friday videos on YouTube.
