I feel this deserves its own thread. This beer was absolutely fantastic. Probably the best DONG I've ever had.

    15.2% KBS. Yes please.

    Thoughts?

This was fucking amazing !!! But thats just my opinion haha In case people were wondering what this was I heard two different versions one was this is KBS aged for a few years and forgotten about in the barrels and the second is that this is a combination of four years left overs of KBS in from the barrels. But either way this was fantastic and hope to see this randomly somewhere down the line again !!!

So.....did it actually have strong bourbon notes? That always been my biggest gripe about the beer.

also, who are the fools who whine about no .rar Class 3 beers on tap at the parties/releases?

Whining about no class 3 .rar is SOOOOO last week. Now there's whining about no good options for class 1 at events like this.

Panthers cub stole the show for me, for those that didnt try it I feel bad for you. Devils cut was good, just reminded me a lot like bcbs.

In my opinion, Devil's Cut tasted almost nothing like KBS. It was much more bourbon without all of the chocolate presence of KBS. Overall, I liked it, but I don't think I don't think it's worthy of jerking off to like the majority of the people thought it was. Just my opinion.

Absolutely amazing stuff. Strong bourbon notes, but smooth and velvety. I could still taste the chocolate notes, but the coffee was pretty muted. I could never have CBS again if they had this at their parties.

Sounds like Founders put on a good party. Awesome tap list! Maybe I'll have to go next year.

Devils cut was amazing, for sure the best beer of the party. Delicious. I would love to see how it stood up to bcbs as they're so close to each other abv-wise.

Fyi all other class 3 beers are sill on tap at founders today. Just had a panther cub and regular kbs. No international breakfast stout or razzleberry stout (class 2). I heard Devils cut is gone for good.

i guess i dont understand how an extra year in the barrel added 4% alcohol to the beer?

It's from Wikipedia, so take it with a grain of salt:
"Angels' share" is a term for the portion (share) of a wine or distilled spirit's volume that is lost to evaporation during aging in oak barrels. In low humidity conditions, the loss to evaporation may be primarily water. However, in higher humidities, more alcohol than water will evaporate, therefore reducing the alcoholic strength of the product. In humid climates, this loss of ethanol is associated with the growth of a darkly colored fungus, the Angels' Share fungus, Baudoinia compniacensis, on the exterior surfaces of buildings, trees and other vegetation, and anything else that happens to be nearby"
I'd have to imagine the caves that Founder's ages their beer in are an extremely low humidity environment. If we are to believe Wikipedia* an additional year in the cave would result in more water evaporating thus increasing the ABV.

*Full Disclosure - I used, and cited, wikipedia to write a paper last minute for a low level course in college. Was pretty confident that the teacher didn't actually read the papers. I got a B, even though he acknowledged in a redlined comment that wikipedia probably wasn't the best source. Not my proudest moment... I hope you can all forgive me.

My rule is always use, but never cite, Wikipedia. Just attribute the information to websites that sound more credible.

Oh, and uh...yeah, that newfangled KBS sounds pretty good.

Guess I was just testing my limits...

Based on your BA name I should point out I went to CMU for undergrad (02-06) and graduate school(06-08). Brass Cafe Michigan Beer Night is where I was first introduced to Founders' Breakfast Stout. Life hasn't been the same since.

As the guy said, you can lose a lot of water due to evaporation, especially in beer, there is much more water than in spirits. The wiki article is correct in this case.
