Just moved to the Culver City area of LA this past weekend from Old Towne Orange ... Wondering where the better bottle shops are in the LA area (maybe Santa Monica / Culver / Mar Vista area) Dont mind driving either if there are some good ones in DT LA either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

For your area it's Wally's and Vendome Bev Hills.

Also Beverage Warehouse if you are on the west end of Culver City.

further east, about 5mins from downtown is Ramirez Liquor. They get some stuff that's worth the trip, not to mention Alex & Carlos are good people, cheers!

Was coming on here to add this, beverage warehouse and wallys are my to main go to spots. With BW if you go often enough you will get a sense of what is fresh, great pricing too.

Would love to add Valley Beverage in Sherman Oaks to this. Stopped there myself for the first time a couple weeks ago and was impressed. Worth the 15/20 minute weekend ride to check it out. I also frequent Wally's, Ramirez, and Vendome BH. All great spots.

My sister lives by Glendale, so I've been to a place called "Red Carpet Wine" in Glendale and they've got a nice selection. The best I've seen anyway, I always stock up there when I'm in town - RR, HotD, Lost Abbey, The Bruery, Alesmith, etc. etc. Worth checking out, although it might be 10-20 miles from you.

If you get to know stephanie (and/or get on the mailing list) you won't find a better bottle shop than Wally's. Occasionally stuff is a buck or two more than it might be other places, but they've got just about everything, including liquor and wine and cheese and bread and salami... Otherwise Vendome BH is great, and the local Whole Foods are pretty good (westwood in particular) too.

There isn't much need to go other places, but if you happen to be across town, Bill's in Atwater, Sunset Beer Co in Echo Park, and the Whole Foods on Arroyo in Pasadena are my usual go-to spots.

Also, since that's where you are, definitely go to Chego asap - they don't serve beer but you can BYO with no corkage, and it may be the restaurant with the best quality/innovation/flavor at its price point in LA.

You're apparently right around the corner from me, so in addition to everything mentioned here (my 2 go-to places are Wally's and Vendome BH), the Whole Foods in Mar Vista (on Barrington & National) has some gems if you go on the right day. Of course the Venice and El Segundo WFs have larger selections, but as for neighborhood hipster grocery shopping, the Mar Vista one is pretty good.

Since it sounds like you are here for the long haul, checking out Stearns Liquor and California Heights Market in Long Beach would be a good idea as well. Danny from Stearns always has a very nice selection, and California Heights is a real diamond in the rough. I try to stop at one or both each time I head south on the 405 (both are freeway close).

Hate to break it to the OP, but if you're at Palms and Overland you're not Culver City, you're LA. "One of us! One of us!"

If you head into porn country, you have Total Wine in Northridge and Liquid Wine & Spirits in Chatsworth.

sometimes the westwood whole foods has a few jems, as previously mentioned. For instance, as of this afternoon, there were two bottles of dissident on the shelf (@17.99).
