Just Drink it Dummy is a month old. Gruiniest is less than 3 weeks old.

I think we need some context when we use that word. Old means different things to different people. You can find all of pipeworks batch info on their website. pdubs.net

Agree, context is best because some are pickier than others. Thanks.

Are there any good places near Schaumburg or Lake Zurich to get single cans/bottles of brews that are not available in MN? Say PW, 3 Floyds, or any other good local/regional stuff? Or do places not really split 4/6 packs for singles there? I know Binny's does some, but the one I went to in the past didn't have much for selection.

I live in LZ and my preferred shop for splits on 4/6 packs is beer bazarre in hainsville. It's about 30 mins north of LZ, so it might be out of your way if you are also looking in the Scaumburg area. I don't know many details about bottle shops in Schaumburg/palatine.

I live in that area and it's pretty rare to see any Pipeworks 4-packs split up into singles (the only one I ever came across was War Bird at Garfield's in Palatine and that was only once). Some places will split up Zombie Dust into singles and charge like $4 or $5 a bottle. The Whole Foods in Kildeer (next to Lake Zurich) used to split up some 3 Floyds but I haven't seen them do that lately. Last time I was there, though, they had some Half Acre single cans. Check them out, they occasionally have some surprises in the singles cooler.

@BeerGuy8315, it's pretty tough to get the "good stuff" (the more in-demand beers) in mixed packs, simply because if you can easily sell a 4 or 6 pack of it, why bother breaking it up? There are a few places in the city that will do it (I know you're not in the city; just speaking from my experience), but even Binny's in Lincoln Park has what I'd consider a subpar mix-6 selection, so if I were you I may just suck it up and buy the full pack of the stuff you really want (for example, Lizard King, Zombie Dust, etc.), and then get a sixer of mixed beers you're less sure of.

Yeah, all the Binny's could use better mixers, but they only do it for standar priced sixers like Deschutes, Sierra Nevada, Bells, etc. stuff they can make money on doing mixers. Just go to Bottles and Cans for mixers of whatever you want.

I was at a liquor store today and was offered a sample of Hey, Careful Man.... I'd had it before and did not like it that much, but I tried it anyway and was really surprised at how good it was. I was told that this might be the best batch of the beer Pipeworks has made yet. I bought a bottle of it when I wasn't planning to do so, and recommend checking it out if you haven't done so before.

No love from any places for Mandarin Dragonet. Called about 10 binnys and other shops. Anyone know any places that still have it around LZ or Schaumburg or in between, or is it pretty much a lost cause?

I don't live in that area, but I would say it's a lost cause. I haven't seen in on any shelves in over a week.

Its going to be hard to find now at a place like Binnys - maybe check Beer Menus? Then you can see if a place near you has it. I'm seeing it still around Chicago.

I know of at least one place that has it on the shelves, but according to beer menus its still out there - either there was more of this one to go around, or it didn't seem to sell out as fast? I had no problem finding it ...

Strange, I had the exact opposite experience, and I usually have no issues with the fish series beers. I grabbed the next to last one a few days after release at a place, and the other bottle was gone by time I left. This was the least I'd seen of a fish series beer since they increased the production on them, although I haven't been in as many beer stores over the past couple weeks as I usually am.

@croush Thats crazy! I never get more than one bottle of the fish beers. This time I got 3, albeit one was for my brother, and I wasn't hunting them out on the release date, I picked them up over the course of a week or so.

Going to be in Chicago Oct 4th and 5th near Rosemont. Any suggestions on bars / bottle shops I should hit up? Any most have pipe work beers other than the highly rated ones?
    Thanks

unfortunately the date coder is not 100% perfect, there is always a chance that a small margin of cans/four packs will not get hit with the ink. I would wager it is most likely from the most recent batch or the one before that, we don't really see any retailers getting held up with old lizard king/ninja/citra.

How is this supposed to differ from Killer Queen? Both are 9.5% DIPAs with honey and blueberries. Different hops? Real fruit vs puree?

Tasted great, so probably most recent batch but was wondering because they're usually dated.

we are just fully integrating Killer Queen into the fish series, its pretty much the same, there may be a few adjustments to the recipe to make it more in line with the fish beers but the concept is roughly the same

sure bet won't change, we just re-made the label :stuck_out_tongue: and i'm pretty sure we have no plans for rock bottom at all right now, or at least we haven't talked about it in a very long time

I believe the guppy beers are draft only. I have never seemed these bottled or canned.

Scarlett Beta is the fish series being released in bottles next week. Raspberries and honey I believe. Should be awesome.

Just to be clear, Scarlet Betta is this coming week, and Blood Orange Guppy is the following week. I'll probably have to pass on Scarlet Betta since my fridge ballooned full with beer over the past couple days.

Did you find that the Grand Guignol: Act Two was readily available at Binny's?

For some reason my local shop did not get it this week

Unfortunately I think some of the current stores allocations are getting cut it seems. I think Pdubs has new customers, and only so much beer to go around............

This was my suspicion when there seemed to be less Mandrin Dragonet on the market compared to past fish series releases. Good for Pdubs though, for as much as I love their beer I don't mind them spreading the love and growing their market (and brewing capacity along with it).
