So is PW Cascade a new beer or are we keeping it under Cascade Ninja for nostalgic reasons? I see one recent review of the new version under the old name

PW Cascade should just be an alias for Cascade Ninja. It is the same beer... well at least as same as any of our beers are from batch to batch.

I think whoever has the better beer should keep the name and that's definitely Citra Ninja by Pipeworks

Sounds like the whole westbrook thing was pretty amicable. At least it wasn't another tyranena fiasco.

I will reiterate that it is my speculation that it is westbrook. i don't have any inside information. either way, seems like it was handled to both parties' satisfaction.

Not Westbrook in this case. But as Drucifer said, this was an amicable agreement between gentlemen.

As this industry grows we will see lots of overlap. As this is a business, it is important that we protect ourselves legally whether in terms of copyright or otherwise. But... as this is the craft beer business, it is imperative that we stick together and try our best to resolve issues outside of the courtroom when at all possible. Lawyers are too gosh darn expensive for all that mess. Money more well spent on the crafting of bad ass brews.

As for the new art on the "Ninja" series, we are now featuring the lovely lashes of our freaking awesome family(staff)

Scott and Kate have the honors of starting our new tradition

Tonight's dinner at Niche was flat out awesome. Even got a pour of the barrel aged coffee abduction. Every course was on point with every beer and every beer was great.

Excellent work from both the Niche crew and the Pipeworks crew. Can't wait to see what's next from both of these guys.

It's extremely small batches (like one or two barrels) I wouldn't expect it to be distributed. I think it's more just for fun. It sounds like they have about 25 or so barrels filled with random stuff. Nothing in quantities big enough for distro.

what variants were FWB getting? i recall a BA beer being exclusive for them, once the allocation was out it would hit small distro. if any.

    jpsy422 Initiate (0) Jul 12, 2009 Illinois

I don't know what FWB is, but I would assume allocations would be under 100 bottles of anything they did, if it even got to bottles.

Just goes to show how awesome pipeworks is to bring something like that to a dinner way out in the burbs.

    November 8, 2013 Update

This week we released two old buddies and one brand new friend.

    Pipeworks Cascade
Pipeworks Cascade is something akin to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on steroids. We go this classic American hop from our friends up in Michigan at Hop Head Farms. The resulting beer is a big Imperial IPA loaded with notes of grapefruit, citrus and floral aromas. $10.99, 22oz 9.5% ABV

    Pipeworks Centennial
Once again we teamed up with our friends at Hop Head Farms in Michigan to bring an intense Imperial IPA. The time we took pound upon pounds of their freshest Centennial hops and slammed as many as we could into our boil kettle. Pipeworks Centennial is teeming with aromas of citrus, grapefruit, pine and is intensely resinous. Drink fresh, drink often. $10.99, 22oz, 9.5% ABV

    What Lurks In the Dark
What Lurks in the Dark you ask? Nothing to fear, just a big, rich Imperial Oatmeal Stout. We used hundreds of pounds of naked and flaked oats to create a luxurious, velvety mouthfeel for your palate to enjoy. It has lovely notes of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt. $10.99, 22oz, 10.5% ABV

    FOBAB Update:
We will be bringing three beers to the Festival of Barrel Aged Beers this year.
Last Kiss Wee Heavy aged for 9 months in Buffalo Trace barrels
Imperial Jones Dog Milk Stout aged for 10 months in Heaven Hill barrels

Not to get too excited, but square grouper sounds like it could be my new favorite based on the hops being used. Really looking forward to that one. Pipeworks answer to hopslam?

The BA Coffee break at Niche (and appearing at Hoptacular) was just a 5 gallon Journeyman Rye barrel for fun...

"Official" BA beers are full sized 53 gallon bourbon barrels, which are starting to make their way out of oak and will be released in 12oz bottles ~ 1600 or so per batch. Maybe more depending on how the beer gods treat us. We typically try to fill 4 barrels of any one thing at a time so there should be some to go around. We are opting for the smaller package for a couple of reasons.

    - to spread the love out a little
    - so you dont have to pound 22 oz of the magic at once
    - so you have the opportunity to try one now and cellar one for later

    More details to come later

Any opinion on whether we should wax these or not? We stopped waxing our bombers a while ago, but have thought about doing it up for these little fellas. Do you find it's just a pain in the ass, or do you like the little something special. We ironically had just bought a shit ton of wax right before we stopped waxing so we have a ton on hand haha

Wax is annoying but I can live with it on limited, "special" offerings.
