"Proper" might be in the eye of the beholder. Do what you like, but the people behind one of the most iconic Dunkler Bocks might have a different take. One can't ignore the strength of that label art.:slight_smile:

Heads up for anyone interested in Augustiner Lagerbier Hell. I've seen one store in Chicago post about receiving it (in sixers) this week but it could very well be other markets as well. I believe only Edelstoff and Maximator have typically been available here so some folks might be interested in trying it. Check with your local Augustiner distributor to see if/when they'll be getting any, if interested. And the packaged date was mentioned as 17 April in the Chicago store post so quite fresh. I hope it hits a local store around me as I'm interested in trying it (although Augustiner sixers are on the pricier side here ~16-17).

How'd you latch onto the Klosterbrau beer? :astonished: Are they canning and exporting now?

It was at a grocery store liquor department store. $3.99 for a 4 pack of 500mL cans. Can says, Imported into the US by International Distillers & Vinters LTD., Everett, WA. How it ended up in Silvis, IL. is beyond me.

That's a big wow! I don't think that brewery is very big. Was there a maibock too? The best maibock that I've ever had was at that brewery.

It was weird, they had 3 different 4 packs for $3.99. Kuchlbauer Alte Liebe Dunkle Weisse, Klosterbrau Bamberger Rauchbier, & Kraftbierwerkstatt Black Forest European Dark Lager. I purchased the latter 2.

Yesterday I attended the fourth annual Logjammin’ Lager Beer Festival in Philadelphia. This event is sponsored by Human Robot Brewery.

Earlier today I posted in the NBW thread:

Last year I discussed beers at Logjammin’ that I awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. This year I will just discuss two beers that I will categorize as winners.

The first winner is sorta a repeat in that I awarded them a Silver medal last year for a Cinderlands/Human Robot Franconian American Style Lager. This year they brought three beers but as this was later in the event I only drink one, Czech Pils. Even though my palate was a tad weary I recognized right away this beer was excellent! I wish I had ‘found’ this booth earlier so I could have enjoyed all three of the beers they brought. Cinderlands is locates in western PA and when I am in that area I will definitelty seek out their beers. Below is a photo of Cinderlands Czech Pils:

The other winner is a brewery that is new to me: Counterweight which is located in Connecticut. This beer was collaboratively brewed with Troegs and they had a placard there:

“A Special Project in Collaboration with our friends at Troegs. We are excited to share Noble Souls Coolship Lager. Providing a gentle sweet and bready character, and hopped in the coolship to provide a herbaceous balance. This lager delivers a refined balance in aroma, flavor and is incredibly drinkable.”

This beer is excellent and I wholeheartedly agree with “incredibly drinkable”. Since this beer was a collaborative effort with Troegs I hope that I find cans locally, and if I do I will buy some. Below is a photo of the Counterweight/Troegs Noble Souls Coolship Lager:

I am always on the lookout for Japanese-style Lagers. This one is Sanji from Scuttlebutt Brewing.
Inviting aroma of straw, green herbs, and cereal. There is a more distinct hoppiness in this Japanese-style brew than in most of the Rice Lagers. Surprisingly bitter after drinking most of the can. Rather astringent in the aftertaste, but not unpleasant. It's just more like a hoppy lager and distinctly over-hopped for this style.

Human Robot - Welpe. Labeled as an Franconian Style Leichtbier. 3.5%abv - enough depth of flavor to be interesting but very easy drinking. @thebeers
