I was part of a light whale fantasy football league this past season and really enjoyed it. Is anyone interested in doing one for baseball? You'd put in 2 bottles of high quality, more limited beer - things like various years of Darklord and Darkness, Kate, Rosso e Marrone, Upland Kiwi, etc were part of the football league. These all get agreed up at the start of the season. They don't have to be too crazy, just stuff that isn't easily bought off the shelf (things even like BCBCS, King Henry, CBS, etc would all be fine). Your beers will go out as a pair so you only ship to one person.

At the end of the season, the designated winners get to pick in a draft style the beers they want. We can determine number of boxes/places when we get a final number of people (shooting for 10).

This will be an auction draft and I'm thinking of doing head to head but can go either way on that. Draft would likely be the last weekend before the season starts (also negotiable). I'd like to use ESPN for it.

Send me a message or post here if you are interested.

I'd also prefer head to head as I'm in another that's not. Like to mix it up.

Yeah my other one is going to be roto so I think head to head sounds pretty good. I'd pick daily rosters as well.

Head the head kind of sucks for baseball though.

I'm interested but would rather be clear on the rules from the get-go instead of what has gone on in the other league we're in.

Sounds good to me. This will definitely be an auction draft league with regular waiver wire (no bidding on waiver). I think we should just plan on this year and then we'll see at the end of the season if we want to do another year/keepers. I'd also like it to be head to head.

As long as we're talking about waivers/free agents, I think it's always best to only process free agent pick ups once a week (Sunday night), as it levels the playing field for everyone that doesn't sit in front of a computer all day. As long as there is a 5 man bench or so it shouldn't be a problem.

If you make this an auction/roto, I am in. Weekly moves/transactions even better.

I can do roto if that's what it takes to get some more people. I think I counted six people earlier before you. I'd also prefer to use ESPN but could do Yahoo.

ESPN is fine with me. I use them for fantasy football. Did most people sound like they wanted a keeper or y2y league?

I haven't heard either way. Right now these are who I have interested:

    ejyoung
    AReno00
    Phoptos
    homebrew311
    DrWalterWhite
    osubuckeye99
    Duffman929 (maybe)
    juhl31 (maybe)

I'd say we need at least 2 more and the maybes to make it happen.

We can do 8 with just AL only, if you can't get more. NL only will be really tough.

I'm down with 8 and AL only if that's all we can get. I'll give it until the end of the week - when do we want to target a draft for?

I'm probably out if we do AL only. Don't mean to seem like a poor sport, but I just don't know enough about the AL to do an AL only league. I haven't watched the AL with any regularity since the early 90s.

  21. ejyoung

    ejyoung Initiate (0) Feb 24, 2005 Arizona

Well, we either need to get another 2 people or this league might not happen. I'm guessing not all 8 will want to do NL only.

if we do head to head, both leagues, and daily moves I'm in. Was in a weekly move league last year and it sucked.

  23. ejyoung

    ejyoung Initiate (0) Feb 24, 2005 Arizona

I don't really want to do weekly moves, but I don't mind the idea of weekly waiver/FA pick ups as suggested above. If you are in, then we need at least one more and we can do it.

for me, draft date is most important as I will be on vacation March 20-24. and if it was a 1 league i would vote NL, but could maybe hang in an AL

Okay, we have some varying opinions in here on setup. Duff - are you out if it is head to head? Carbon - would you be out if it was roto?

Also, I'm not sure how to set up ESPN to make pickups process Sunday. I can extend the waiver period up to 4 days, but I imagine free agents would still be picked up whenever. I think I will do it like that. It's nice to be able to pick up a player as needed, especially if we do head to head.

So we'd have to do it on the 25th if we were going to do the last weekend before the season? Would an evening draft work for everyone on the 25th? The other league is drafting at 1pm Eastern on the 25th so it'd have to be before or after that.

I would prefer roto to h2h, but it is not a deal breaker. If it is at 3:30 PM on the 25th (CST), I can do it. If it is later, I cannot, as I won't have enough time before work. I'm available all day on the 24th. Let me know.

3:30pm central would probably work with the other league draft. That one is at 12 central right? Should be enough time. That cool for everyone? 4:30pm eastern on the 25th?

I've heard from a decent number of people that that would work so I will set it up for that. We do need one more person though. Can everyone who is playing send me what beers they are thinking of putting into the pot? I'll start compiling a list.

i have a framboise for a cure i could put in at least. you say 2 bottles, is there a price range to be in for the 2? like $30-35 or something? more, less?

  39. ejyoung

    ejyoung Initiate (0) Feb 24, 2005 Arizona

I don't think there's necessarily a price range, but that's definitely a good bottle to start with. Here were all the pairs that were in the football pot:

CL Rosso e Marrone + Bruery 100% Barrel Fermented Autumn Maple
Box of Chocolate + BA Blackout Stout
Dark Lord '09 + Kate the Great '11
Cigar City BA Milk Porter + Ithaca LeBleu
Darkness '10 + Dark App / BCS variant
    BA IST + Darkness '09
Parabola '10 + Bruery Autumn Maple Barrel Aged
Surly Smoke + Southampton Old Herb '11
2011 Foothills Barrel Aged Sexual Chocolate(the Pappy Van Winkle version) + Foothills Baltic Porter
    Darkness '09 + BCBVS
McKenzie Saison Vautour + McKenzie Irma Extra
Dissident '10 + Kiwi Upland Lambic

And I'd say if you have something in mind that will come out over the season and you know you will get some, then you can also use that.
