I'd be more than happy with the replacement kit... Some places say they won't replace the full kit, just a particular ingredient (i.e. Extract/Grain/Yeast/Hops). Also, you did not "waste 5 hours brewing"... You learned an invaluable lesson. One that I am certain you will not forget in the future.

Well said. I have been saying the same myself. If nothing else, I learned to put more water in the pot to compensate for boil off.

...and to always check your grain on delivery. I remember one time I actually specified MW Supplies deliver uncrushed grain as I wanted to freeze them to store as I knew I wouldn't be brewing for a couple months. Lo and behold, I received crushed grain, (and a drilled stopper instead of an undrilled one)... Fortunately, they replaced it free of charge.

I do agree with you that there is a hassle that you feel should be compensated, however, I thought that the shipping charge essentially was incurred on their behalf as well as replacement parts. I have since used the additional steeping grains, as well as the drilled stopper, and have been pleased with how well companies such as MW Supplies and Norther Brewer conduct business as I have purchased many times from both of them.

You should make a video or post pictures of your brew with the replacement ingredients. Definitely write notes down and keep a record of your process, etc... Would love to know how your next batch comes out! :grinning:

I was very skeptical about the grains when I got them. I checked with a brewer buddy of mine and he said they were crushed. The label clearly said crushed too. I figured there a reputable company that does this a million times per day, what would be the chance that they botched it up. Well, I learned something about my assumptions that day.....

Usually the issue with pre-crushed grains is that you're relying on someone else to crush them adequately for good efficiency, but not so far that they cause a stuck sparge. I think this is the first time I've heard of them completely forgetting to crush. One more reason to consider owning your own mill IMO.

I'd find a new brewing buddy, he might make shitty beer too if he crushes his grain like that.

Stop buying kits from Northern Brewer and support your LHBS.
