That's just par for the course with 100 taps though. Same shit at Sunset or Yard House... Kegs will constantly kick and it's not like they're going to print up new menus every hour...

But let's start a thread and bash the place anyway, and not bash anyone else in town for their high or odd prices. Gotta love the Internet.

We've done events at all of the major beer bars in town, all of which have been accused of price gouging and "huh?" style pricing at one time or another.

Perhaps all of the "huh?" prices have something in common? Perhaps the wholesale on them is insane? Perhaps there's a few mistakes there? Perhaps you should go in sometime in the near future and ask them?

I'll tell you what though, when we're there next week ... I'll ask them what's up and report back.

PS - I removed your meme; they're not allowed.

No. We've never charged a place to host an event with us. We pick the place and try to spread the love. And as we've never done a fest related event with Meadhall, and they have one of the largest beer bars in town, we thought a pre-ACBF event would be a good match.

I've also been one of their harshest critics, but the owner has really turned things around; he literally cleaned house. Beer and food quality is high, and vastly different from when they first opened. The owner is also as much of a beer geek as any of us and actually quit his day job and sank everything into making this bar happen. We want to support that.

I am glad you didn't quote me, because I am an equal opportunity basher. BTW, I have shared my concerns in person, over the phone, on social media and on this board regarding the pour sizes and prices, yet there have been no changes. Todd, you must admit this is by far some of the most serious "huh?" pricing ever.

Thanks for the honest answer man. I haven't been because of all the criticism on here, but might have to check them out if this place is worth while.

Thanks Todd, that's good to know. I don't see much of a change reflected in that menu when it comes to pour sizes an pricing, though. And if he is as much of a beer geek as you say, it's genuinely confusing. I don't mean just prices being high b/c there are explanations for that these days. A lot of those prices simply just don't make sense on their face.

I wonder if the next round of gastro-pubs coming to Boston this year with have reasonable prices and big pours? :astonished:

Not really. I see some form of pricing like this every time I go out, with varying reasons why from the places.

Not to get into pricing but their pours have the right level of gas, perhaps some of the best pours around.

Let's hope you just pass-out on the train tracks instead. Choo! Choo! :grimacing:

I think its great you guys are holding an event there, especially since it sounds like things are on the right track. Maybe they will hear some of the feedback from the BA community as a result.

Yeah, making sure that gas is right really explains a $9/6.75oz pour of Chouffe  oh wait, you weren't trying to get into pricing.

agree on the headscratcher instances of pricing. that said, some of it is pretty competitive.

personally, i can't imagine ever passing by both CBC and lord hobo to go to meadhall... but that's mainly because i'm such a big fan of both places (moreso CBC), and not tooooo thrilled about 100-tap type places. plus, i'm not a foodie (in fact, i'm a vegetarian, so most pub fare is not impressive).

if the food is a draw, or if you need to try something new every night, i can see giving them a try (shrug).

Wholesale pricing for many of the Belgian beers is insane. I don't let Todd look at the invoices from the Belgian Beer Fest, he'd probably pass out. Some are upwards of $175-200 for a 20L keg ... $250-300+ for a 30L keg and so on. Bottles are even worse for some beers. As far as the bars overhead feel free to ask him.

    You got into pricing!

BTW, I know they are expensive. That doesn't explain the pricing decisions at Meadhall. I wouldn't have picked a specific Belgiab beer to mention, because I didn't think you were going to get into pricing. I am afraid the thread will digress from the point that still stands: a lot of Meadhalls prices are wacko.

Relax. It's obvious I was merely being sarcastic in response to his thoughtful reply that really added to the discussion and gave us a far better understanding of beer pricing than we could collectively ever imagine.

Fair enough! And you were quick, I updated my post to probably further derail the thread.
