I noticed that one has opened in Spring, TX just outside Houston. I know there are a handful in Dallas, and it is a pretty big beer bar/pizza chain in the Southeast. I have read very mixed reviews for the chain locations in beerfly, but they seem to have put at least some thought into the tap list. Though I have never been to one. Has anyone had any experience with this chain, and specifically the one in Spring? It is hard to tell if it is more like the Saucers, WoB, or even BJ's?

Only been to the one in Southlake. Very impressed by tap list, much better than BJs IMO.

AZ ones are not so great in my opinion. The Saucer sort of comparison is fair, though this is a pizza themed place and you won't get the record keeping of your beers like Saucer has. And here the staff doesn't know beer, but I wasn't expecting much in that department anyway. They're also pricey unless it's happy hour - and it's just pizza & beer.

Been to the Denton location a few times. I can't imagine going here just for the beer - it's more of a pizza place with good beer compared to the more beer-focused Saucer and WOB chains. When we mentioned we liked hoppy beers our waiter was able to rattle off five IPA's we might be interested in. With the U of North Texas in town, it very much has a college vibe. I'll second Frogfan's assertion that it has a better taplist than BJ's.

The one in Austin is kinda dumpy (at least the last time I was there). They have locals on draft, but nothing special.

Only one I've been to was in Tampa, FL, but it was pretty cool. Went at off-peak time, though so we could BS with the bartender, who knew his stuff.

I went to the new one in Spring last week... atmosphere was cool for a place out in the 'burbs. It's pretty close to Klein High so you'll get a little bit of the high school crowd, but at least they bring their MILFs with them ;-) The pizza was above average and the tap list was pretty solid too. They have rotating Texas taps for seasonals and they even had Super IPA (which I promptly enjoyed two glasses of)!! They don't have the volume of taps that Saucer has but what they have is quality. I'll be going back and I'd recommend it.

P.S. bartenders aren't really craft beer savvy, but in a few cases it isn't necessary....

Been to locations in VA, NC and AZ. Totally decent, especially if you like doughy pizza (I don't), not exceptional. Beats any place that just pours BMC.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm always looking for new places out closer to where I live so I'll definately give it a try and report back.

Why did I not know this opened in Spring? We went to the one in Austin last summer and it was a so-so experience.
I am excited to see this...will have to check it out! This news just made my day, craft beer selection closer to home...yay!!
You live out this way too? I have been meeting so many BAs close to home lately. Now if I could just get a decent tasting group going....

I've been to several MM's (Pensacola, Mobile, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, and most recently Denton TX). They usually have a few locals on tap but the list seems to be pulled together from Atlanta corporate as I've seen the same 70% of the beers in each location. Food is usually pretty consistent but service can be spotty. Interesting location as the center has historically been non-retail and medical. A little off the beaten track but close enough to my place to warrant a visit.

I'm a big fan of the Mellow Mushroom, but not necessarily for their taps. To me their pizza crust is so good that I'd go there even if they only had Bud Light and Smirnoff Ice.
The fact that they have pretty decent taps and a good happy hour is just a bonus.

I've been to several all over the country. They are always hit or miss for me. Some have a really great selection, but most have a good selection - if not on tap, in the bottle. The food is also hit or miss...but there are times they are the best option around anyway; so usually worth a visit.
On another note - Brixx Pizza is way better - they actually have beer geeks that work the taps and a nicer selection (of the ones ive been to).

Well not exactly out there (I live near 290 and 1960) but any place that has good beer and does not require a drive into downtown is a good thing. The Northwest Suburbs are a bit of a wasteland.

I have to agree with TexasFan. We were drinking there on a Friday evening and the beer board was loaded with IPA and APA brews including the Alpine/New Belgium Super on draft (very good!). They also have seasonal rotator for most TX craft breweries: (512), St A, Rahr, etc. It has been a bit crowded with a wait list most evenings. Hopefully that will thin out once the newness wears off and getting to the bar gets easier. I've been to other Mushrooms and the pie is still top quality. This is a great place in the 'burbs' for those who like craft.
Jen: they have more taps than Rockwell and a good size bottle selection.
Laura: go over there, go over there now.

We were going to go there for lunch today, but I was mistaken about the location...may have gotten distracted by garage sale signs...I was so hungry we ended up stopping for burgers at smash burger. Going out there Sunday. Will have to wait til then.

I just found out that there will be a MM opening soon in SATX (1604 @ Stone Oak, I believe). I look forward to checking it out!
