Staying in Montreal in early May. I am looking for suggestions of places for a really nice dinner that also serves great beer.

Not at the same place, but somewhat close (ie. cab ride):

Drinks at Dieu du Ciel, then take a cab to Joe Beef.

You may be too late already to get a reservation at Joe Beef!! But if you can, I heard they have a few good crafts now such as Le Castor, which does some pretty good stuff. I stopped in Bier Markt for a pint before a Habs game, big beer selection(local crafts and lots of imports) and food looked good but can't say for sure.

Depends on which night of the week he's looking at heading there. Weekend: might be too late. Wednesday or Thursday evening: should still be fine.

Weekend you might be able to get in late - we made a reservation about 3 weeks ago for the middle of May and got in at 9:30 for a Saturday.

To tag on to the original question - any good lunch places? Already doing 400 coupes on the Friday...

I stopped in this place by accident a year ago and thought it was great, Brasserie Reservoir. Their bruch was super delicious.

Cafe Griffintown is decent and had Yakima on tap last time I was there

May I hijack this thread to make a complaint? I dont go out to super-expensive restaurants that often in Montreal, but when I do, in 95% of them, they will have a very long wine list, boast about how local and fresh all their food is, and then have a beer list with 4 BMCs, some euro lager and thats it. Would it kill them to keep a few DDCs or Dunham bottles in their fridge? Is it some sort of licensing thing or something. OK, sorry, rant over. As you were.

Montreal, and Quebec in general is at least 5 years behind the USA in that matter.
We have an amazing food scenery but the restaurants are just so wine oriented.
Very french-minded thinking on gastronomy. But it's changing. More and more wine snobs and sommeliers are venturing into the world of craft beer and liking it.
We (Br. Dunham) just started shipping beers to Liverpool and Petit Alep which is great !
But we need more open-minded beverages buyer out there!

Even though I don't drink much Unibroue anymore, I still love to eat at their resto Fourquet Fourchette at Palais Congress. Wild game, gorgeous cheeses, historic specialties with good pairings to be made.

Bistro In Vivo in Hochelaga-maisonneuve seems to be beer/food pairing oriented.

But the best option, in my opinion, is to buy top beers from the province from the shelves, and take them to one of the best bring your own wine/beer restaurant in montreal. I would recommend l'état major or le quartier général. In my opinion, the best byow dining experience in montreal.

Old Montreal I'd recommend St.Sulpice or Lofts du Vieux-Port. Both were a bit over $200 and required valet.
St.Sulpice is a nice hotel and perfect for a getaway with the wife.
The Lofts were amazing. No elevator but a big spacious room that is perfect otherwise.

Something a bit cheaper? Check the hotel apps to find a rate. Can't comment as I always go with these two.

DDC is a $15-20 cab ride from Old Montreal.

    Have fun.
