Why would they switch back, though? People lining up for bottles literally costs More money (for port-a-johns, garbage cans, and staff to manage the line and sell the bottles) as well as community goodwill (no one wants beardos pissing on their property and blocking the trail) v. an online ticket sale.

Yes, McDonald's and the convenience store won't make as much in sales as they did at the first two Henna and the initial can releases, but....

MoRE just has to withstand this initial onslaught of attacks from the undead neckbeard zombie hordes that are extremely butt-hurt on Facebook, Instagram, etc., and then everything will be fine for the next ticketed release.

@shaun_the_brewer , great job going this route! You won't be able to make everyone happy, but this is a substantial improvement over having people lined up for hours and hours on end, while upsetting the local residents and trashing the neighboring area. You have effectively prevented excessive muling and line cutting, and cut out a major number of profiteering assholes out of the equation, while putting the beer in the hands of more people who will appreciate it from the limited number of bottles that are available. Thank you.

The bot comments kill me. I'd love to see the financials for the number of Henna bottles purchased to offset the cost of the bot. And if someone has the time, energy, and smarts to program one themselves, then they clearly want the beer more than I and good on them.

I am happy I won this time and hope they keep these events ticketed in the future, even if I don't win another one. I think once the initial butthurt subsides, the pluses will outweigh the negatives.

Bots aren't even a thing though right? Your purchase info must match your state ID...

Lines are good for business. Ask Monkish, Other Half, Treehouse, Russian River, etc. They may incur added expenses initially but that's outweighed by the value added to the brewery's reputation/brand

Conceivably they could have a list of people (friends/MILMs/beer buddies) and their credit card info.

Right? Especially when they've had them all of three times since opening in July! No wonder tickets lasted until 12:00:01pm today; not enough hype!

Challenge Excepted. I disagree with the lines are better argument.

    Reasons why lines suck.
    1. Line control in most lines is suspect. People take advantage when they can to jump in line ahead of people or do other shady things (Ever seen anyone from the front go back by a friend back in line and get a second ticket....yep, people suck) People are very good at finding the holes in processes and take advantage any way they can.
    2. Inclement Weather. The two initial More releases had nice weather. How about a 100 Degree release with clear skies... or Down pour of rain when its 45 Degrees. Don't think it can get bad in Chicago... its going to happen sooner or later.
    3. More Brewing is responsible for the behavior and actions of its patrons. Trash, pissing in public, Sharing Alcohol, poor behavior all impact the experience and each release. Do you think the inline share will last forever. All you need is one incident and then the shares stop. Try standing in line for 5/6 hours with no bottle share...
    4. Muling... You know who you are. Your wife, family and friends that sit with you in line so you can get a plethora of bottles. Pretty hard to get the same people to get on a computer and do an online sale making it very difficult to coordinate. People at this onlinr release were lucky enough to just an allotment for themselves.
    5. Last time I checked the lines have had more than 500 people or more in line for each release but only 140 or so people can get into More Brewing because of the patron capacity. Many people who would normally get a pour of the release or food leave because they can't wait. Some come back later but its only one day. This release is being done over 3 days... I bet amount of people over the 3 days event will vastly exceed the 1 day event and sales should be higher.
    6. Parking. If releases continue to grow.... won't take much for residents to force the cops hands on parking and for people to start to get towed or tickets for parking. Parking is not going to be an issue with a large window for pickup and limited amounts of people for each session. Villa Park would probably prefer the Online Sales over massive influx of people for one event where people are very active early in the morning.
    7. Vendors can take advantage of the line. Vendors don't pay More a percentage of their new found crowds. More actually loses business to food and drinks sold outside of their establishment... doesn't matter if they are from Villa Park or not. Some vendors are truly partners while others over time I'm sure will be there solely to make money.

Not only parking, but when people start lining up at 1 AM the neighbors are impacted by the noise throughout the wait. The longer the "share" goes as 11 AM approaches, the louder people get. We heard dogs barking from all the noise and the trail runs along condos and peoples houses. Not to mention the few fence jumpers we saw hoping into peoples back yards to piss behind a shed.

The only people that are that pissed about this are MULES!!!!! I got lucky and got a ticket, and a time when I can pick it up, now I don't have to sit in a line getting pissed at line cutters and trying to figure out where I can take a shit.

Sounds like a few of you could use a reminder bot with your ticket bots.

One day I'm going to win the lottery....then I'm going to go into the brewery the night before the big release and offer an obscene amount of money to buy them out immediately...then I'm going to post "Haha, I bought the whole company and all the bottles are now mine, I'll refund your ticket prices shortly."

I like the EventBrite or Lottery system rather than standing in lines. The argument, "I'm a more dedicated customer because I can waste 4 hours of my life standing in a line" is complete BS. Some of us have lives that don't rely solely on acquiring beer. This gives us a chance to get some on equal footing.

If I was running a release I would do it this way. Say we have 1000 tickets.

500 tickets go to public via line, eventbrite, lottery system, etc.

The other 500 would go to loyal customers. Acquiring tickets can be done in a variety of creative ways.

If it was my brewery this is how I would do the 500 loyal customer tickets.

Every dollar spent at the brewery equals a point, then when a release comes up you can use your points to acquire raffle tickets. Then 500 tickets are raffled off to those people. Say every 50 points gets 1 ticket. Your most loyal customer can have 1000 points, and then can cash them in for 20 tickets. That gives him an edge over the guy that stopped in one time and got 50 points (1 ticket). Then you just draw 500 names from all the raffle tickets that were entered.

At least this way you are showing your regulars some love, and also expanding to the general public as well.

People will be pissed regardless, it's a losing situation no matter what you do when you have a popular limited release.
