    Brewtique on 9th Ave.

I walked by this place for the first time last night after having a few pours of BCBVR and BCBCS at Beer Authority, eating dinner and heading back to Penn to catch my train. I decided to check it out, and saw a decent selection. Noticed they had some BCBBW and BCBS sitting around, and decided to inquire about the price. I have plenty of BCBS but I could always use a few more bottles of BCBBW. I asked the cashier how much a single bottle of each was, and he said $15. $15! That would make a 4-pack $60! That is just absolutely pathetic.

I wonder if this is the most blatant price gouging in the area for BCBS, or has anyone seen worse?

Definitely will contact GI about this.

Then again, it's NYC. People pay $12-13 for a 16 oz can of Bud Light at Yankee Stadium.

That is the worst price gouging that I've seen.

While I see where you are coming from, sporting events compared to buying a single beer from a store are completely different. You pay for the experience at a sporting event, as opposed to just buying a beer and going home to drink it.

I will gladly pay $9 for a beer at Citi Field or Nassau Colisseum to see my favorite teams play and enjoy the luxury of having a beer at the same time, but I have a problem paying $9 for a single beer at a store that I will bring home and drink in the comfort of my own home. Sometimes I don't need a beer at a game, but when I go out to buy a beer, I want a beer.

I agree. $15 is ridiculous at a bottle shop. I'm a Mets fan and I am happy to have some good craft beer options at Citifield. Yankee stadium has sold out to In Bev.

I live near this place in Hell's Kitchen and I will never step foot in there again. They price gouge horribly and have no shame about it. I think contacting GI is a good idea.

I'm more confused about how you walked past a place on 9th Ave on your way to Penn from Beer Authority lol

That's almost 2 fold markup. So yes, nuts.

Then again, Bruery Sucre (regular price) is about $70 a 4 pack. Sooo, BCBBW is still a great value.

Beer table pantry is competitive in the up-charging space. What is impressive is it's not just the special release beers that they overcharge on, but everything.

Bodega near me was trying to sell a single KBS for $30

The worst part is that people down in that area have NO problem paying those prices. So the bar has no reason to adjust.

Clinton Hall has a flux capacitor a la Torst. Torst's prices are comparable to Clinton Hall. Are Torst's patrons suckers? Beer geeks are willing to pay Torst's prices giving Torst little reason to adjust as well. Torst gets called out for their prices, but that dialogue is far outweighed by the praise. Torst was named the top bar in 2014 NYS by that other website. It's not apples to apples... beer list, atmosphere, cool factor, neighborhood, owners, whatnot... but it's not very cut and dry. I went to Clinton Hall once. Their tap list that day was fantastic. The prices made me uninterested in visiting again.

I actually think many people feel the exact same way about Torst as you did about Clinton Hall - it's a beautiful place with a terrific, well-maintained tap list, but there's no way I'd ever go for more than one beer, and only then for a special something that I seek out there. There are so many other, more affordable options in the area. That said, I do love the "wine bar" feel of Torst, and if I want a quiet, well-curated drink, I'm willing to occasionally pay the upcharge for the atmosphere, as it isn't an atmosphere you can really get at any of the other bars in the area.

On a side note about Torst - I think it's easy to forget how groundbreaking the place was when it opened not a short year or so ago. There wasn't a tap list in the city like it, and their dedication to constantly outstanding options at perfectly maintained conditions (so to speak) was a revelation. Very quickly, they set the bar for so many areas of beer service, and I think many other bars have been duly influenced in the way they treat beer service as well.

I call out Torst all the time. The prices there are ridiculous. I've only gone there a couple times because I feel like I'm paying for the decor, not the beer.
