On a hot summer's day. Personally, I would have to go SN's Torpedo, Ithaca's Flower Power, and also Don De Dieu. Yeah, they can get you in trouble, but I can sit on my porch and knock back 2 or 3 Torpedo's, or sip on a 750ml bottle of chilled DDD, and feel cooled off before going back inside.

Do you have any favorites? Aside from the NEIPA juice bombs and low abs lagers or pilsners? Or even the typical session IPA?

I'd have to go with a Saison like Hennepin, Tank 7, or Brooklyn Sorachi Ace. Refreshing with a sneaky high ABV.

This is a semi-cheating answer but is what came to mind before I read the body of your post. Plus even though it's classed as an NEIPA on here, a) it predates the moniker, and b) I'd say there is a fairly strong argument to be made that the hop / ingredient / taste profile falls outside of what people would consider to be a prototypical NEIPA today (at least how it was made then; been a little while since I had it - not sure if there has been a recipe tweak). But anyway:

Hill Farmstead Abner. My wife, sister in law and brother in law went up to HF for the first time in 2012 for their 2nd anniversary. We rented a house on Caspian Lake. It was unseasonably hot (unlike the anni event we went to the following year where there was hail/snow). Stocked up on several growlers and I still remember just crushing Abner down by the lake. One of my favourite beer memories. Amazing beer in an amazing setting.

Currently, my favorite thirst quenchers are:

    Grapefruit Sculpin 7%
    Jai Alai 7.5%
    Pliny 8.0%

Which reminds me, I need to get more of the above. Cheers!

The Andechs Doppelbock is 7.1% ABV. Tough to imagine drinking anything else that punchy by the liter. Yet I've definitely put down my fair share of that one.

Good beer but in a patio in 90deg weather?!
    This tastes like pumpernickel bread.

My favorite over 7 is an ongoing journey but I can say about higher ABVs generally that when I pay twice the price for craft beer I expect more and a 4.2 all day something doesn't make the cut.

Done it and seen it done by dozens of other folks, too. It gets really damn hot in Bavaria in the summer and that beer the most popular choice on the uncovered patios at Andechs.
I'd rather have something malt-forward and bready than something hoppy in the heat.

I would definitely like to try the farmhouse beers! But sours and saisons mess too much with my gut. :slight_frown:

I’m not here to debate the merits of German patios in Bavaria. I just thought one might pick a Helles or a Kolsch.

Those aren't over 7%...well, at least they shouldn't ever be. The Andechs doppelbock is the exception, not the rule. I can't think of anything else I'd drink on a hot day that's over 7%.

    Touché.
I’d probably lean my toward a Belgian like Tank 7 or an IPA. But, beer is subjective and that’s we are all here.

I'll drink stronger beers in the hot weather from time to time, but the notion of finding any of them "refreshing" is totally foreign to me.

In the past my beach week beer has been Heady, due to lack of inventory I went with Sly Fox Pils, and Troegs Sunshine Pils. Honestly they were a perfect choice, hoppy enough, low enough abv to not cause problems. But if I’m looking for a bit higher abv beer it would be Two Hearted Ale,.
