Easy to go with the popular macro beers for this. So I'll go with my Mount Rushmore of bad WI micro brewery beers.
1. Anything from Water Street Brewery - Basically just colored water
2. Door County Cherry Wheat (Shipwrecked) - Ever had Robitussin as a child?
3. Wheat Monkey (Lakefront) - Surprisingly bad from a well respected brewery
4. Wisconsin Amber (Capital Brewery) - Similar to #1 on my list
Curious to hear opinions of WI beer drinkers
Oh yeah, there are certainly a lot of stinkers out there in craft beer world.
Orange Blossom Pilsner
Willy | Alpine Beer Company
Steam Engine Lager | Steamworks Brewing Co.
Really Far Away Imperial Double IPA | The Fort Collins Brewery
To be fair, the 2nd to 4th brewer of origin brew some that are certainly not stinkers.
I looked at my lowest ratings, and these were a combination of terrible mouthfeel, flavor that was pretty much the opposite of what I expected with either no or terrible aroma. Basically the triple crown of suck:
Big Worse, Mikkeller
Red Harvest Stout, Guinness
Amber Ale, Crazy Mountain
Now this brings back memories. When I was getting into homebrewing and collecting longneck bottles, Wiedemann's was the last beer that was distributed locally in returnable longnecks. So I drank a lot of Wiedemann's and kept the bottles. It wasn't terribly bad.
On the other hand...
- Buckhorn Beer
- Red White and Blue Beer
- St. Ides
- Top Hat Beer
and these go back years.
Yeah, there are some really great bad movies, Like Them and The Giant Claw..
Slight rephrase, these are beers I hated, but others might have enjoyed
New Belgium La Folie
I’ll play. I know there will be some hoots and hollers about a couple of my choices, but here go, in no particular order:
Pete’s Wicked Ale
Milwaukee’s Best Light
I bought Pete’s with the best intentions since I had a couple of their other beers and liked them, but the Wicked Ale was aptly named. Guinness, received it in a beer gift basket about 10 years ago, thought it tasted like creek water. I might like it more now that I’ve gone heavy into stouts. Red Stripe, tastes like urine, don’t care what the smiling dark man says, it ain’t beer. Milwaukee’s Best Light, my wife’s aunt left 3 cans in my fridge about 5 years ago, drain poured the last one after choking down the first two. Old Style, which I drank a swimming pool full back in the 80”s with a buddy of mine, tastes like Pliny next to that swill!
Agreed!! Love them there flicks.
Hehe. Red White and Blue and Buckhorn. You said them.
Ever seen It! The Terror From Beyond Space? The monster was the last role played by a fellow who specialized in portraying monster gorillas.
Ray Corrigan was his name.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that I like it, but never found it all that terrible. It's just a bland tart wheat ale with a bit of cranberry flavoring. Pretty quenching, and goes down easy enough.
Is that another name for Robot Monster? Because it sounds like you're describing that one.
Laws no! That was the campiest movie I've ever seen along with Plan 9 From Outer Space.
It was like a precursor to Alien.
Leslie Nielsen learned his Airplane schtick back in the 50s. I think we're all better for it! These campy films are like a cup of tea....Or a Ballantine XXX....
The REAL Ballantine XXX. The current one should be banished to...The Forbidden Planet.
This is fun! Let’s see who I can offend
Rogue’s Voodoo Maple
Founders’ Lizard of Koz (Because I really think a bug got in the barrel and they tried to mask it with tart Blueberries).
Mikkellers’ Ultramate 1000
That infected Abomination that @ThisWangsChung got me at Max’s a few years ago...hated it so much I forgot it’s name.
Pete's, whoah! A bit of a throwback for me. I was just telling my girlfriend the other day about how Pete's used to be EVERYWHERE (she had never heard of it).. I remember enjoying the strawberry YEARS ago in some of my first craft mix-6's .
Any beer by shocktop. We tried a bourbon ale that tasted like drinking cardboard.
Forgot about prickly pear, yeah that one totally sucked
I have both these beers and bought before knowing of BA. After reading reviews I really fear drinking these 2 beers. Also have Crazy Brewskie from same brewery. My question though is although awful beers do either one of you believe aging them could improve taste?
Meh. I'll drink anything after
Great call on the Ninjas Mystical Jack. Add Old Milwaukee to the list.
False. Malort is actually a good bitter liquor. I always keep a bottle on hand.
Rogue Voodoo Doughnut Lemon Chiffon Crueller Ale - this tasted like lemon cleaning solution
Shock Top Raspberry Wheat - cough medicine
Brasserie Grain d'Orge Belzebuth - I remember hating this beer, but I don't remember why
Tie - Stone Crime and Stone Punishment - almost undrinkable, so friggin spicy
Breckenridge Nitro Orange Creme Ale
Leinenkugel's Watermelon Shandy
In the case of Before-After Triple Bock, I doubt it. There just doesn't seem to be enough character to the base beer. To my taste, it's more akin to an extremely high ABV cheap malt liquor than a doppelbock. There are some off flavors alongside that nasty alcohol bite. It wouldn't cost much to try it, though.
That's a shame. Well I'll continue to age it since I already have it. But I don't look forward to the day I open it. Maybe I'll just pass it off to someone who double crosses me.
Voodoo doughnuts lemon just sounds disgusting. So besides regular doughnut they also have a lemon variant of it?
Habanero Sculpin ...and I like spicy
Gimme S'more (JWB)
Lemon Meringue Pie (Funky Buddha)
That would probably be the Shock Top Honey Bourbon Cask Wheat. That one made my Mt. Rushmore of crap (see page 2 of the postings)
I agree with many above. I will take an AAL by miller or bud over the below. All of which were gross, which to me is worse then not having much flavor. Sorry for more then four. They all were awful...

I had to hold my nose to drink it or I gave out and poured them out.
Iron City Light (yes there is such a thing)
Horny Goat Brownie Porter
Climax Hoffmann Doppel Bock
I remember Piels Real Draft as a kid in the 70's, the cheap relatives used to love it! My Dad would not drink it because he was not "that thirsty". In the very early 80's me and my buddy got hold of a six pack and both said .... this sucks!
I agree with you on the Shiner stuff, I think there beer is terrible. One time I bought a mixed 12 pack and ended up chucking 10 of them.
Yeah Rolling Rock has a real funky after taste!
Bud light lime
Sweet baby Jesus
Cave creek chili / habenero sculpin
SN Brux......horrible beer. Flat cardboard waste of $15.
A beer I hated but then loved was Old Nick. It was just much too much for my beginner taste of 1985. Anyone want to post a beers you hated but then loved thread.
The kids will not remember BEER ( generic). The Jewel stores a few decades back sold generic beer in a white can with a strange green color paint on the base. Real crap.
You are correct about Boxer Lager.
