I noticed a couple of months ago that since I've had a job with regular hours my daily beer consumption had gotten to the point where I was drinking 4-5 pints of beer, either store-bought or homebrewed, daily. So for the past month I've come up with a reasonable way to limit my daily beer drinking. I call it the 16% rule. I can have 3 5% ABV beers, or a 10% imperial stout and a 5-6% ABV beer, or 2 8%IPA's. Bombers count as 2 beers so a 8% bomber hits my limit.
It's not a hard and fast rule, but it gives me some guidelines for my personal consumption. For a party or special occasion I can ignore it completely, but most days I've had no problem at all adhering to it.

Must get pretty complicated when you go out and order a flight. Otherwise, sounds like a reasonable way to monitor your drinking...whoever would want to do that.

I limit work days to 2 beers or a bomber. Works well for me.

There's no "ordering a flight" here in my town so that's not a problem. I live a couple of miles outside of a town that still thinks Michelob is "elitist" so there's absolutely no reason to drink in town. But I've also felt better since I decided to slow it down.

No question was posed. Not sure what sort of response you're looking for.

Bingo-just making a statement. If you don't have a response then don't respond and all will be well.

That's actually a 500 calorie rule, but same thing really...

I have a similar system but it's even more complicated. Since some beers come in pints and others in 12ozs., I multiply ounces by ABV and try not to pass the 60 mark. Thus 4 12oz. beers at 5% would be the max. Of course, when the math becomes too complicated to figure out, I know for sure it's time for bed.

good on you man, it's your business how much you drink, but it's good that you can establish a personal limit and stick to it. I'm fine with around three pints per week.

wait, wouldn't one 12 oz. beer at 5% be enough? 12 times 5 is 60, or am I just not getting it?

    I have a 100% rule, if I open a beer I drink 100% of it.

This is pretty much what I do as well. Also, I try not to drink every weeknight. 3, maybe 4 work nights per week (plus weekends, of course) is fine for me.

I've always wanted to play the 100% rule with beer...28.57 Bud Lights or 3 Tactical Nuclear Penguins...how you gonna get there?

Hey man its kind of like building a muscle. Tolerance is the same thing. I am at the point now to where I can drink almost anything I want. For instance: last night I drank a 6 pack of two hearted just as a good "get going" beer (I should add I can pick up on every flavor in a beer after like six or seven drinks) then I migrated to two Founders Breaksfast Stout. Then I moved to three pints of homebrew IPA (single hop chinook) then a founders porter. Now my tongue is primed for a really flavorful beer so I make sure with an Ovila Quad bomber. Sure enough it is. So I move to Rochefort 10, who is the star of the night and the cause of all the rest of the drinking. NEEDLESS TO SAY, I DON'T HAVE TO WAKE UP IN THE MORNING BECAUSE I AM UNEMPLOYED.
