Maybe not funny but I thought of you when I posted.

When all the BIF has ended and you think you want some Richmond beer, let me know. Just not mega boxes though.

    Cheers, man!

@brutalfarce kindly hooked me up with a can of that and I absolutely loved it.

My BA rating was slightly lower than yours, but when I went back and thought about it I realized that I drank that beer way too cold. I thought the bubblegum flavor really came out as the beer warmed up and I wish I had started it warmer. It was too late at that point. My favorite from Tree House with my limited experience so far.

Looking quickly at Untappd, I have Haze, Green & doppelgänger rated higher, but that could’ve just been because of the initial shock of trying a Tree House ipa compared to what I had up til that time (less than two years old in the beer world.) I would love to revisit those because of this reason.

But to my memory, this and Hurricane have been my favorites. Hurricane just hit me with a huge melon that I’ve never picked up with that prominence before. This one it was the bubblegum.

Then you go to Treehouse one day, have their beer on tap and realize everything you thought was a lie!

I think this will get used more so for my Nalgene than crowlers. Especially for camping or when I want to keep my bottle cool during a hot track workout!

I still remember my first Tree House box. Got to try the main line-up and was so hyped to visit all of them. I tried hard to squeeze the bias out of my numbers, but I still think some of them turned up high.

I'd love to visit the brewery and revisit some of those brews, but for now, there is so much else out there that I don't fancy trading for a revisit.

It's a fun visit, and the brewery has beautiful grounds... I'm not fond of their pour limit though, or the ridiculous lines for cans.

That being said, the beers held up for me on tap just as well as they did in cans. Julius has never been the incredible ambrosia for me that it apparently was in the past (sorry - I'd rather have a Blazed Orange Milkshake by Hop Butcher!), but everything else is just fantastic.

    What is their pour limit??

I have a tough time buying full allotments, in fact, that's something I never do. That makes waiting in line for beer a little rough. It took ~15 minutes to get my beer at Trillium in a line only a few long. I nearly left knowing I'd only be buying 2x4 pack, and there wasn't any DDH street 4 packs at the time. If I was going to be in town longer, or had I been able to drink that night, I probably would've bought more, but just couldn't haul all of it. They had a black IPA for growler fills only and was extremely tempted to try that.

I remember really enjoying Haze and Alter Ego. I think part of that was my expectations going into those reviews. Julius had been drummed up in expectation for years, and I had greeted many snobby, rude Treehouse dealers along the road to trading for those cans - and it just wasn't worth the trouble. The other beers were more or less unknown to me, as Julius sat in the limelight in posts across the internet, and thus carried the brunt of the first-time Tree House expectations.

Standard pour limit is 2pp with the ability to drop to 1 at their discretion, fun fun and no drinking their cans on site they will literally make you pour it out. Thoroughly enjoy their beer but they way they treat what they do in the current beer market certainly irks me. Like how they said they would never stop growler fills especially with the ginormous expansion and yet have never had growler fills for at least the 2 years I've been going

So much this!! I was so excited the first time I got to try Julius. After my first sip, I was extremely disappointed. I didn’t think it was any better than stuff I can get locally. The NE haze bois did a great job of hyping that up.

    This.

Or, you could be a hooligan like me and pop some cans in the parking lot. Met up with some dude and his wife from... South Carolina, maybe? Can't recall. I'd picked up a few cans in trades that were rolling around in my trunk, and one popped a little pinhole leak - so we shared that, and he cracked a Lawson session ale. No one said peep to us.

Sorry, but I'll chug a can before anyone's going to make me pour it out.

Yikes. That is disheartening. A 2pp limit does make it hard to justify a trip to visit. The point isn't to black out, but I'd most certainly like to try as much as I possibly could on my visit, especially in an area I may only visit once or twice.

Hell, even Side Project doesn't have a limit and you can solo buy 750mL of 15% ABV beer.

Agree with this 100%. Not saying I would turn down a Julius if somebody offered, but was bummed a little the first time I tried it, as well. I am sure the hype train/Treehouse anticipation got the best of me.

Yea I'm sure you can I've just heard people who've never been buy you know $300 worth of beer and are hype to try it then they get the tap, terrible experience for someone who made a special trip and dropped that cash but I agree I'd be pounding that beer

There are probably enough people hyped to try Treehouse (and others for that matter), that while Treehouse may be burning a single bridge with the experience they provided, they still netted $300 and didn't lose any meaningful impact on their day-to-day sales.

Sucks, because that means not much, if anything, is going to change.

I was curious, so I just looked. They have 3 beers in the top 10 and 6 beers in the top 20 with a net 20 beers in the top 250. That's crazy representation. That's actually not the most though (wha!).

Out of curiosity, I found the following: Hill Farmstead has 21, Side Project has 13, Trillium has 13 and Toppling Goliath has 8. Without a question, Treehouse dominates the top end of that list though. Hill Farmstead doesn't show up on the list under after Treehouse's 8th beer on the list.

Crazy! That was a lot of fun to look up.

Funny to see how much it’s changed even since then. Whereas Side Project wasn’t even on the list of top 15 breweries.

Alpine with 5 on there is what shocked me when I did it.

I thought there was a thread discussing this topic at one point. It is amazing what has changed. Since then, Trillium got caught in that employee scandal and their numbers have dropped. Classic breweries like Russian River have seen their numbers drop (they're at 5 right now), while new variants of old favorites have seen brewery representation on the list increase (Tree House producing King Julius, King Jjjjuliusss).

Less tangible, but I believe Toppling Goliath used to have 3 in the top 10. One of those has slipped out and the other is looking threatened.

Disclaimer: I didn't look up many of the breweries on the list to compile a full set of numbers. I just looked up the few that I figured would be heavily represented.

    Interesting stuff.

I really like Alpine IPAs (and the one sour that I've had) - I was quite disappointed when they pulled distro from MN. I keep hoping that I'll get to try Bad Boy or Great one of these days, but given the state of things, that's not exactly likely.

2 pours per person. Can split some into half pours, but not usually the most sought after options.

They don’t offer pours at all times. If can line is long. No pours. The pour line has taken much longer than the can line on my last 3 visits. One was about a month ago and they had cans of King Julius and Very Green. About 20 minutes in can line and 40 in pour line.

If you arrive later in the day you are more likely to get pours and have short lines for both.
