    Pass.

    Actually, hard pass.

Minnesota though? Now you’re talkin’. That tour would start at Schell’s, where ….. everyone in this BIFfer, which is made up of lovers of traditional styles, would collectively ….. be very happy together.

And then we’d make our way to MSP for some real shenanigans.

Yeah, I don't think anyone actually goes to North Dakota as a destination. Or as a state to drive through, if they can help it. I've spent more time doing the latter in Manitoba than in NoDak.

So as I mentioned, @Whyteboar and I met up this weekend and he generously brought some awesome local beers for me:

And then today another box from @BBThunderbolt showed up. Terry went above and beyond this round and I cannot thank him enough!

    A true mystery beer..

That is one of my homebrews, a dry Irish stout I used maple runnings from trees I tapped in my yard vs water for brewing.

@Coronaeus Trellis Pilsner From Amsterdam Brewing. Seriously vibing with this beer. I only wish my fridge had 12 more for the summer night on the porch watching the sunset. The beer has a subtle fruity vibe with a clean and crisp finish. The carbonation is perfect. The lightly toasted malts, hold well to hops. A touch of a peppery with some floral. The head retention was the only sad thing about this beer. 4.07

A question for the authoritaahhaaazz!: Are we playing by Mafia rules where Families are out of bounds, or is collateral damage acceptable?

    Or, maybe, myself.

Whoa! My brain and taste buds didn't quite go in that direction. I was thinking it was a brown ale with more character than the usual Newcastle-inspired ones. Seemed a little bigger than most of the dry Irish stouts I've had (I mean that as a compliment- a lot that I've had are kind of thin and insipid, Guinness clones without the nitro, basically). Really good stuff! Judging by that example, I think my homebrewing friends could learn a few things from you!

Yeah, I was a bit unclear there. I had an Otherlands beer to send you, but my duffel bag slipped. It didn't break, but the crown was knocked just askew enough that I couldn't ship it, so had to drink it.

    You got that coming yet....

started in 1917 then opened the "candy Manson" in 1946 and says in 1956 they are credited for bring white chocolate over from Europe to US. (I take these facts with a grain of salt) but has kid going to mansion it was a little like willy wonka..

15C. Irish Extra Stout which is 5% to 6.5% .. so it does have something to it, it was really hard to plan since i did not really know the amount of the sugar in the maple runnings I used

Right, I meant to post this earlier- not only did Frank carve out some time just to say hi *and* buy me beers on my home turf (seriously, isn’t that against the rules? Now I am lost!). But then he hands me a box of beer to take home. Personal ninja strike!
Behold the stout goodness this man gifted me with:
Benthic from Half Acre. He told me a story about a rare splurge of his concerning a different Half Acre beer in St Louis (IIRC) and I almost choked when I read the label. He assured me it is a different beer.
BA Dino S’mores from Off Color. Pastry goodness from Chicago.
Obadiah Poundage- a 19th Century style Porter. He has sent me my favorite porter of all times, I think I might have cried for joy when I saw this one.
He remembered something I posted over a year ago stating I had wanted to try the #4 from 2020. (Oatmeal Stouts are trending towards being my favorite stout style). I had managed to get one earlier but shared it with several friends while also drinking other big stouts. This one I will savor solo.
And Parabola. Because it’s Parabola. ‘Nuff said.
Frank, you are an amazingly generous and thoughtful man. I can’t thank you enough.
    Cheers all!

    Random useless data alert!

I've always been curious whether there was a tendency among craft beer lovers to rate higher ABV beers higher, but it's not something I know how to mathematically argue one way or another.

Here's a chart I made using all the beer scores we BIFfers have entered, showing scores versus abv. Almost 51,000 beers.

By visual inspection, it looks to me like the lower bounds of scores we give to beer typically rises with abv up to around 17% abv. Possibly the upper bound also rises, though less steeply. After that data might be too sparse to say anything concrete.

  32. snaotheus

    snaotheus Grand High Pooh-Bah (6,508) Oct 6, 2008 Washington
    Pooh-Bah Society Trader

And here's a more statistical view:

    (1) I put all the beer scores into "buckets" of 0.1% abv with (so, the 5.1% "bucket" contains all beers with abv from 5.1% to 5.1999999...%)
    (2) I ignored any bucket with less than 35 entries in it
    (3) I calculated the average scores for each remaining bucket (that's the heavy blue line in the middle)
    (4) I calculated the standard deviation (sigma) within each bucket, and added 2 sigma and subtracted 2 sigma from the average, creating the upper and lower blue lines
    (5) The straight lines are just the trend lines
