Thanks to @Jimmy_Kneecaps , I've made an addition to the rules: every box must include a German-style brew. Also, one of my favorite NASCAR driver drove #9, so let's try to include Bill Elliot, or NASCAR. hints. I'll get pairings sent out starting later today.

Nice, someone is getting some Schilling and von Trapp.

The nascar part is gonna take a lot of googling for me, but I’ll persevere

So you couldn't have done this BIF when I had literally 6 bombers of Surly Nein (their 9th anniversary beer), an imperial German Hefeweizen (yes, I typed that), in my beer fridge?

    Seriously?

I'll get over it, but still.

Yet to receive my target but fairly certain that our namesake this round was not born in your state/province(assuming I'm not sending to @Roguer again this round).

My preliminary research has revealed only one Canadian driver has ever won a NASCAR race. Earl Ross won the 1974 Old Dominion 500. Earl Ross was born in Prince Edward Island. My eventual target will not be receiving a beer from Prince Edward Island. They do not make good beer in Prince Edward Island.

They do in Newfoundland though. I’ve had a few from Port Rexton that were A+. Do they make it to you with Canada’s bizarre beer distribution laws?

No. It is easier to get beer from Germany, Belgium, even weird places like Cyprus and Iceland than it is to get beer from another province. Ontario has very few ‘imports’ from other provinces. We get some Driftwood from BC, some special order stuff from Dunham and Dieu Du Ciel! Otherwise, the stuff we do get is middling to poor and there isn’t much of it. We’ve even got more US stuff on the shelves now than we do from other provinces. Trading is a must if you want to get the best from elsewhere. I do far too much of that...

That’s really sad. I’ve had some great beers from Newfoundland and Quebec (my mom lives in Newf), but I’ve had to physically go to those provinces to try it. I’ve barely had anything from Ontario. What are your favorite breweries there? I’ve had several Collective Arts, but not much else.

Strange rules, but do you at least get Peche?
I can’t wait till 3/23, Peche Day. I go to Three Penny Taproom for the event every year.

We’ve got some good ones here. I’d argue Bellwoods is the best brewery in the country. I am lucky to live about a ten minute drive from their second location. They do all styles well. They are about the only brewery here that has to deal with line-ups for special releases. They have the best festival in the province “Witchstock” that attracts the heavyweights from south of the border and around the world. My cellar looks like their bottle shop.

Burdock is great with experimental stuff. They do a lot with wine barrels, wine skins and even wine/beer hybrids. Their fruited wild beers are top notch. They have begun doing experimental stuff with hops too (no boil) that are intriguing

Half Hours on Earth is in the middle of nowhere. It makes getting to Hill Farmstead seem like a drive to the corner store. They are great with wild stuff too. Lots of experimenting as well. They pioneered the beer by mail option that has become very popular here. Almost all the best breweries have online bottle shops now.

Barncat in Cambridge make the best IPAs in the Province, if you can get them. They are a small outfit, growler only for the IPAs and have limited hours. Their best stuff sells out in a few hours. I’m going to try my best to get a growler for my target. Fingers crossed.

Godspeed in Toronto is great. It is Bim Lafontaine’s current brewery (former Dieu du Ciel! brewer). He focuses on German styles, smoked beers and beers with a Japanese twist (he was in Japan for a few years before moving to Toronto). His Dortmunder is spot on. All his smoked beers are excellent if you like the styles. He just put out an American Barleywine that is quite good.

There are a few others that make some very good beer. Rainhard and Left Field one Toronto, Small Pony and Dominion City in Ottawa, Stone City in Kingston. Fairweather in Hamilton. Badlands in Caledon. Some of these are very new and very small.

    Cheers!

We get Peche Mortel occasionally. We get none of the Peche Day variants in bottles. A couple spots do Peche Day here though and the only Peche Day collaboration is done with Godspeed here in Toronto.

All the best stuff from Quebec is hard to come by here unless you trade. Dieu Du Ciel!, Dunham, Auval, Bas Canada, Pit Caribou, etc. Luckily for my target, I do a little trading.
