Sea Hag is no Session IPA. Sure, I drink many cans of it here and there but it is NOT a Session IPA.

 

A few that you will find here in CT are Founders All Day IPA, Lagunitas Daytime and Stone Go-To IPA. These all clock in under 5%, making them easily "sessionable".

 

to be honest seahag is MY session ipa. easy to drink, quaffable and crushable.

 

Two Roads- Lil heaven is ACTUALLY a session IPA. Not just an IPA that people say they can "session"

 

Just because there are few IPAs that fit into the definition of a session ipa (which is actually beers under 5%), does not mean you change the definition of what a session beer is. Sea hag is just not a session or sessionable IPA. It is just a great locally brewed IPA.

 

I'm not trying to argue that session ipa's are or are not by definition under 5%.
not a big fan of session ipa's. they're thin in body and a fad.

 

Finally, a brew I really enjoy by Two Roads.JUST making it in as a session I.P.A. at 4.9%

Now, if you said Session Double IPA (or Imperial, for that matter)....

These are all under 5%.

I liked Lil Heaven so much because it's the first one (session IPA) that I've had that didn't seem thin. Give it a shot before the hate. And a fad? Well, I guess that's yet to be determined.

 

Sea Hag has never faield to make me smile. Delicious and really easy to find locally.

I also agree with the Two Roads Lil' Heaven love in this thread. That is a damn solid beer that I happily buy 12 packs of.

 

Does a Session IPA really need to have a tremendous body? It IS supposed to be light and quaffable without sacrificing flavor kids...that is part of what makes them great!

 

Can you by Gandhi Bot cans at the brewery? and is Fuzzy Baby Ducks on tap? going up Friday July 25th.

No and no.

 

Sea Hag isn't a session ipa, and I'm glad it isn't. Its just as easy to drink as something like founders all day ipa, but is much more flavorful (all day being good in its own right). Definitely an underrated gem in CT.

You asked two questions, one of which is always answered with a 'no' (cans of GBot being sold at NEBCO - they all go into distribution) and the other question is answered with a no on 363 days a year, as FBD is just on but two, maybe three times a year and it sells out in a day each time and results in 3+ hour wait times. NEBCO makes damn fine beer (best in CT IMHO), so I feel that it is always worth a stop. I believe that GBot will be going on tap for this weekend for growler fills, so you'll be able to have that. Not sure what else will be on...but they don't make a bad beer.

Don't waste you're time. Whalez or bust. That said, if they have the Vanilla Stout Trooper on cask (which happens pretty often), it might be worth going.

 

You might be able to find FBD cans at the brewery, you have to ask though. Very limited

Also, if they tell you they don't know what you're talking about, they're just playing along, as there may be too many people in the tasting room to dole any out. Just wait for it to clear out a bit.

I've sent people Sea Hag as extras on trades and most if not all of them have been blown away by it. Glad to be able to easily get sixxers of it...for now. haha

 

Finally got to try Sea Hag in it's latest incarnation and it really is a delicious, hoppy, beer. Nothing compared to the crap that use to sit on the shelves in MA back when it was distributed here.

 

They have definitely improved the recipe for this beer over the past few years

 

Looks like I will have to give Sea Hag another shot. Scored 2 Ghandi Bots 2 weeks ago and drank them last week and they were much better than my original experience with them last winter. Nice carbonation and great flavor.
