That's fantastic. The regulations prohibiting this in the first place are archaic and based on taxation instead of business prosperity

Woa! Looks like I'll be joining the gig economy if DoorDash and Uber Eats get to deliver whales " I'm sorry sir, they must have mis-packaged your order. I don't see your Curvature Vertical in with your cans. No need to call to report it. I'll just reimburse you with cash for your loss."

And the best part - you will then be able to write it off your taxes.

This wouldn't impact me for Illinois breweries outside perhaps an order from Scratch or DESTIHL

However, the part that did catch my eye was the snippet regarding out of state breweries.

Would love to receive direct shipments from great breweries which do not distribute here, including Vermont (Alchemist) and California (Russian River). Hopefully other states would follow as well.

Right? Tired hands, foam, hudson valley, veil, other half, trillium, have all been shipping in the last year I believe. Who knows what will happen when the country begins to return to some sense of normalcy, but I'd be very happy to get the occasional shipment.

Citing this column on Crain's just to share this gem from Bob Myers, president of the Associated Beer Distributors of Illinois. Bold emphasis mine.

Ughhhh. By that logic how are breweries even able to sell on their own premises without a distributor? What’s to stop a brewpub from serving rotgut or skimping on taxes? Maybe the hundred thousand plus dollars it takes to start a brewery may dissuade people from making an inferior product that kills people...

This is potentially huge, and would be a great way to check out so many breweries from the comfort of home. As demand increases, it would potentially boost distributor sales. The fear-mongering from ABDI is just sad. If small breweries aren't allowed to rebound from the loss of taproom sales, there won't be many left to distribute.

Over 300 breweries in Illinois, many great ones all across the state. Last I checked they aren't all in Chicago either...

“counterfeit rotgut booze that sickens and kills people in countries without such restrictions”

If anyone thinks there isn’t rotgut booze that sickens and (potentially) kills people around here, just wait until the weather warms up and go for a share with @Quilentro.

He's arguing that the three tier system should exist to create more revenue for the state. Not exactly the best way to convince the rest of the world... And goes right into the main opposing argument (that is oversimplified and correct in certain situations but not in many others) that distributors "add no value, are just there because of regulation"

This is so good for the consumer.
Also, this is so bad for consumer's wallet.

If brewers didn’t have to deal with the 3 tier system and sold their wares at the same prices do you think they would mind being taxed more to compensate for state revenue loss if ~2/3’s the current sale price wasn’t going to distributor and retailer anymore?

Yes, I think some breweries would mind. Who wants to pay more in taxes? No one does.

Said no one ever. If they could recoup 66% of the retail price of a beer by cutting out distributor and retailer you don’t think they would mind paying an extra 10% on taxes for that? Do the math.

What I see right now though is that my local store charges less than the breweries on their sites.
