Good morning frothy head hipsters and dripping lace lovers,

Mid-MI is 46F and sunny currently. Supposed to look beautiful and feel like fall today, so that's perfect. Aside from the Wolverines defeating my Spartans with a last second field goal yesterday, my entire week was perfect. Oh well, there were many nice Michigan brews to sooth the loss and I ain't complaining about that.

I'd like to thank our trusty mattcrill for keeping NBS running smooth since June as I appreciate the opportunity to sleep-in after crazy weekends of DJing weddings. Now that the wedding season is winding down, I'll let mattcrill enjoy an extended slumber. That is, if his boys to wake him first

Week 400. Wow. 7.5 years. Thanks Alstrom Bros for giving this this awesome beer loving crowd the opportunity to become a comprehensive community. I really, and I'm certain 'we all', appreciate everything that goes into making BA live and breathe. Kudos to you for having the foresight and passion to execute a rad site that brings us all together in the name of good beer!

Now onto beer. I had the pleasure of sampling/purchasing/quaffing many a fine brew in the last month or so. The standouts: Six Point - The Crisp, Short's Bourbon Dirty Bird, Short's - Mmm Kay, Great Lakes - Engine #20, Bell's - This One Goes To 11, Kuhnenn (sp?) - Fluffer, Three Floyds - Busy Boyz, Perrin - IPA (& Vanilla Raz), Founders - Dave's Not Here, HopCat - (Whatever their Wet Hop IPA is called?), Shorts - Kind Ale, Epic - Fermentation without Representation. I know there's more, but I'll stop here. Perrin Brewing in Comstock Park, MI (just 9 miles north of Founders) was a great visit a few weeks ago. Stellar beers with a lot of promise to be even better. Their E.P.A. was refreshingly drinkable as well as their R.I.S.

A small caravan of us will be hitting up Three Floyds next Saturday, with Greenbush slated for the trip back into Michigan. Very thankful for being able to hunker down for my third time at FFF this year. Will also try to check out Dark Horse in route. Hoping to snag some Broo Doo if it's still available as I've never had it, but heard great things. I'm sure Zombie Dust will make its way back with us in multiple case form. Alpha Claus would be awesome, but still too early in the season :slight_frown:

I want to thank everyone's participation in NBS, thus keeping us fresh, fun and informative. Not too many people have new beer on their mind come Sunday, but for those of us who do, we love to share our new beer experiences here on this thread. It's great to see how wide-reaching craft beer had become and the extent some people will go to enjoy it. And if your enjoyment brings you here, then our mission is complete. I'll be attending a beer dinner at a local cafe this afternoon, so I don't envision myself sampling any new beer at home today. But I will be creeping on this thread and looking forward to reading some great commentary and possibly clicking on some formal reviews. So please keep the spirit of NBS alive and good day and good drinkin'!

In the undying spirit of craft beer,

    Howdy, new beer drinkers.

The guy at my beer store pointed this out to me - it was his only bottle, and I'd vaguely recalled him mentioning it to me sometime in the recent past.

Perennial Artisan Ales (St. Louis, MO) Fantastic Voyage, a coconut milk stout.

This beer was delicious. I reviewed it here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25888/83258/?ba=Greywulfken.

Couldn't catch the last drops falling out, but you get the idea. Wish I had another. Really good stuff.

Hope your beers and teams treat you well today...

Happy 400th NBS! I did come up with something special for the occasion but a last minute work commitment is sending me on the road so I am reviewing a smaller quantity beer before I pack up and hit the road. I may post later from a brewpub that I am planning on hitting on my way to my destination. This is an impressive beer from one of MN newest breweries. Indeed Brewing Midnight Ryder:

Alright, listen, so technically - and I say this so you don't get concerned "about my drinking" - the Fantastic Voyage was late last night - but I love the NBS thread!

And I say this because I absolutely must share this beer (which I just finished) with you:
Goose Island's Bourbon County Brand Stout Bramble Rye.

From the bottle: "Stout aged in rye whiskey barrels with raspberries and blackberries added."
"Develops for up to 5 years in the bottle."

This was a 12/10/11 bottling (read: aged 10 months). Thanks go to Superstar Beverage in Huntington for bringing Goose Island in twice this year, and allowing me to sample beers like this; I would not have had the opportunity to do so otherwise.

This is what I'm talking about:

OMG. Do you see that? This beer has tapped into the space-time continuum...

This was my second stab at this beer. Reviewed it (and updated it) here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1549/78050/?ba=Greywulfken

The worst part about drinking this beer?

No, wait. This is the worst part:

    ...

    Make this your new beer.

    Cheers!

Here's the finish to my post.

A little hobbled after a tumble from a ladder yesterday. Ugh! Sucks, but I'll give it a go with one small beer today.
(My limitations on typing resulted in the earlier timeout post. My apologies)

Great Divide has been putting out interesting beers lately and I've enjoyed them. Not sure where the rice is in this one, but it's an good easy drinking beer.

Greetings to all my fellow NBS'ers, I won't be posting a new beer, had way too many at a huge party yesterday and will be setting up an event in a few hours today.

Just came on here to congratulate Malty on the only thread I know of to have lasted 7 years, and the great idea it is.

What better way to end a week then with new beer(s) and sharing opinions with each other? Happy NBS all!

about 3 weeks ago, Sams Quik Shop was selling bombers of Spine Tingler for $0.99. I grabbed one, but never opened it because I was kind of scared. I opened it today, finally. I actually really like it. The smell is loaded with Wit yeast and sweet oranges. The coriander is nice, but theres a metallic feeling that comes in unwanted and kind of is a turn off. Otherwise, I really like the beer.

Beautiful summer, I mean fall day in West MI. Weather app has it in low 60's, but the sun and warmth makes it feel something in the neighborhood of 70.

Things are quiet enough to review this fine offering from Bell's. Oh, so good.

I've been killing a King Henry this afternoon. Bottling date: 10/08/11.

Obtained at a local beer store's (Huntington Superstar) Goose Island beer and cheese pairing/tasting event.

This'll be the first time I've had a (conveniently aged) year-old King Henry.
There's a lot of "King Henry vs. Sucaba" out there, and it's a stalemate. Different, but excellent beers. I just feel like the King is a little more elusive than Sucaba in my area... *adds +1 to mystique*

I'd love to buy everyone a KH, but I can't - they limit me to one bottle per purchase... *rimshot*

Whatta delectable drink. All hail the King:

I had a problem choosing between the Bell's Stouts sitting on the shelf at Total Wine, but I grabbed this and Expedition. I wasnt overly impressed with Expedition last time, but on to the new beer.

Its just as roasty as every other Bell's Stout. Heavy roasted malt with the sweetness and body coming late. The light-ish body for a cream stout is actually a good thing. I was expecting a super thick and roasty stout akin to like Zhukov or Black Note. Ive had Black Note twice, so I had to have the parts.

Greetings Malty, Mattcrill, and all fellow NBSers, Happy 400th NBS! After a typical gray, rainy week here in the Fourth Corner, today turned out mostly clear and sunny. I wanted to have something special for week 400, and found this one hidden at the back of the fridge. It was indeed special, Thanks again to Brabander for the hookup: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/313/857
