New Beer Sunday (week 457)

    I think I'll give this NBS thing a go!

    Went to Brasserie 4:20 last night, as I hadn't been there in a week or so. Figure I'd pop in and see what was on draught for the night. Nothing I hadn't tried before, so I figured maybe it was time to try some of Revelation Cat's bigger offerings in bottles. I also had Death Star Imperial Sweet Stout, but I think this next one was the winner for the night.

    Speed King Imperial Porter. 14%. Poured a deep brown, nearly black, but with some good clarity around the edges. Oh boy this was a big beer. Almost some English barleywine sweetness right off the bat, then got nice and roasty with some real licorice/anise flavors. Then a surprising bit of tropical hoppiness into a bitter finish. Nice big, full mouthfeel, and well-hidden alcohol. A sipper, but I had the whole 330ml bottle without a problem.

    Quite a nice big beer to warm up after a wet, cold weekend hiking in the Cinque Terre! Cheers!
