On a mission to find an IPA I actually like. I hear great things about this one being easier to enjoy than most. I gave it a good review but no no no. I hate floral hops and I guess I may never like IPAs. :slight_frown:
I want to like them. Everyone loves IPAs. But nope. If I taste flowers in my beer I am done.
And now I am stuck burping grapefruit through a perfectly passable stout.

What do you want your IPA to taste like? Do you like India Black Ales?

I would love to try this one sometime as I really dig piney notes in beer.
Yards makes a beer called Poor Richards Tavern Spruce Ale that I just love!

Y'all have got to find me an IPA I will like.
Citrus is fine (although I can live without the citrus burps!)
Earthy is great. Pine is acceptable though not my favorite thing. I just cannot freaking stand flowers in my beer.

Back with another beer, a "dry hopped pale ale" from Double Mountain:

Not bad per se, but weird. It's like a pale ale/pilsener mashup. The hops used cry out for a crisp, lager finish but that's not what you get. Not really my cup of tea, which I find also seems to apply to Double Mountain in general.

And what the hell was up with the mountain of sediment?! Years ago I mistakenly bought a year-old 6-pk of Winterfish, and it had less sediment than this non-ipa that was bottled three months ago!

So exhausted all day at work today, but well worth it as the culprit was a night edging into day this morning of celebrating one of my dearest friends in the world getting married. Copious amounts of a tasty APA homebrew another friend (who's getting married next weekend!) put together all special-like for the occasion flowed down my gullet combined with hours of pounding our feet to some Polecat and more, NOT burning the whole beach down with our bonfire, and sadly lacking the bioluminescence for the obligatory skinny dipping in the mist...
What I'm saying is it was a damn good reason to be next to useless all day. Besides, with basketball cancelled while they redo the gym, I don't have to wait until almost midnight PST to join my favourite group of digital folks in the digi-sphere!

I had my first encounter with 'single hop' showcase IPAs a couple of weeks ago in this very venue, so I can feel justified in making a weak attempt at making a connection with the fact that this one is brewed by Two Beers, and it's my second single hop IPA... ok, no that's just the exhaustion talking.

Single Hop Single Farm Mosaic Hop IPA from Two Beers is a tasty brew that admirably brings forth the elements of this varietal that everyone loves. Though it lacks an intro or an especially well crafted aroma (most single hops seem to be missing at least some element... those elements are usually filled by the complimentary hops... hence why most beers use multiple varietals added at different times blah blah blah...), the rest of the components (aka the ones fulfilled by the Mosaic hops...) are done quite tastily. Fruity/honey waves across the tongue act as the light jabs which are inevitably followed by the left hook of acerbic bitterness that I can't quite nail down conclusively.

Umm... I'm going to take the puppy for a walk and go to bed.

Yeah- the slight addition of Munich malt really does wonders for the whole feel of the beer. Only available in PA, though, unfortunately.

I agree with you that there are a few hop verities that should be used with other hops. I found that I dislike Mosaic single hopped brews, yet add Citra and Simcoe to the mix! You got magic in a Malt Bowl.

Try more Double IPAs and definatly a Black IPA. Try 21st Ammendment Back in Black. Also give the Dogfishhead 60, 75, and 90 and Burton Baton a whirl.

Haha it's actually an old converted miniature vase. It seems most of my specifically beer-appropriate glassware are not actually glasses but that vase, an old honey container that also makes for a great tulip, etc...
