Another part of the desk-bomb from @jzeilinger
    [IMG]

Tastes so crisp, fresh and tasty.
Looks of a pilsner, nice frothy lacing throughout the pour, great hop presense and a oily, chewy mouthfeel.
Always love desk-bombs, especially when they're filled with tasty beers that I've never had yet seem to always enjoy.

Went to the track today for some interval training, around mid 50s and sunny. I like this brew, I believe this is an APL not a CP like the person that put it in originally. 1st Amendment on steroids. Very nice thirst quencher.

Happy Sunday NBS. Hell of a nice weekend here on the island. Sunshine galore with temps approaching the 60's. Spent the day doing shit round the house and watching/listening to the mets finally pull out a victory against the devil braves. Lounging for the rest of the day, drinking brews, and firing up a London broil on the grill.

My new beer today is Hardcore Chimera IIPA from Finch's beer co. Finch's just hit here distro wise and I've been seeing this stuff everywhere. No canning date but since it just hit I'm assuming its at least fresh enough.

Dirty amber pour with no clarity at all. Very murky looking with a decent head. Not a huge nose to her with mostly hops and sugars. The taste really seems to carry over from the visual pour. Initial sip is murky and dirty tasting. Very earthy malts really hit my palate up front. A bitter and slightly hoppy finish. The mouth feel is light, dirty, and a bit off putting. I really get a weird mineral tea quality from it.

Overall this is a very malt forward ipa that is just really not my style at all. BA score of 91 perplexes as I'm in the low 3s at best on a border line drain pour. Glad I only grabbed a single can,

If you've not had it- XVIII is well... you taste it and see. I think angels sung Handel when I drank its first sip.

Abrasive ages very well. There is no problem holding on to a few for awhile.

Good afternoon, all, from sunny Charlotte, North Carolina. Spring has sprung, and in between hacking up copious amounts of tree jizz, er, pollen, I'll happily add my $0.02. I'm a longtime voyeur, first time participant in this series of threads, so bear with me and I'll try to follow all protocols and traditions in a manner becoming someone of my lack of status...

I'd like to add Brooklyn Brewery's Sorachi Ace saison. Although I like all beer varietals, I definitely gravitate towards IPAs, DIPAs, and Tripels, so this is an auspicious occasion. In the South, spring tends to come early, and before you know it, it's 120 degrees outside, with 200% humidity and mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds. As such, it's important to appreciate this short season while it's around, and this is the perfect time of year to flirt with lighter beer styles such as saisons.

Yesterday I was at Whole Foods with my better half, and checking out the beer section while she shopped for her goat cheese-encrusted, gluten-free chia seeds (or whatever the hell she was looking for), and I noticed the 4-pack of 12 oz. Sorachi Ace bottles for $8.99. I quickly checked the BA reviews on my occasionally-smart phone and decided to give it whirl...

Wow, what a fine beverage. Light, crisp, with lemon-y notes that are absolutely perfect for this time of year. The 7.2% abv is pretty well-hidden, and I still felt like I could tackle a crossword puzzle after drinking two of them. Despite being marketed as being brewed with the somewhat obscure 'Sorachi Ace' hops, I felt the hops took a supporting, not leading role in this beverage, and the bitterness is subdued, and takes a back seat to the citrus-y dryness.

Enjoy your Sunday, and give this one a try if you haven't !

Do. Easy to come by, and a great brew. I think better than the dubbel, but last week we established the special place in my heart for tripels.

I've liked nearly all of what I've had from Brooklyn. Read Oliver's book. Changed my life in a small but qualitative way.

Thanks, I'll look for that. While the Sorachi Ace is probably only the 5th or so beer I've had from Brooklyn, I've had nothing but high marks for all of them. Tasty stuff !

Hmmm... I had some of that yesterday and it was pretty good. Not the best DIPA I've had, by any means, but certainly acceptable. I wonder if there were some temperature/storage/aging issues between Chi-town and the Empire state...

Good afternoon, NBS. Hope everyone gets well soon, so they can get back into enjoying beer, as they obviously love. Before our little gotta-get-outta-town trip, I had a few amazing beers from Hardywood (a couple w/CCB). They highlighted a string of 4+ reviews. I seem to have hit a wall. We hit [3] Brothers Brewing (officially name changed dropping the 3), but there wasn't much at the tap room we hadn't had. Spent part of the day enjoying the outdoors in Roanoke (left side). Afterwards hit Parkway Brewery, but again, nothing much new.

After enjoying the Roanoke skyline, the girlfriend was happy to get to enjoy a beer, but not so happy I'll be paying attention to the Masters. We're both happy to not have to be concerned with work tomorrow. Noticed a new to me nano brewery in town, but they are closed Sunday. Got to try one at a local bar though, Soaring Ridge-TrailHead Nut Brown Ale:

The beer pours very nicely, on point with color and a nice head. Unfortunately the accolades end there. It's a fairly standard, this-is-why-people-don't-like brown ale. Some woody notes, nutty notes light and overpowered by light bittering hops.

It was nice to read both of your reviews and compare to my experience. I loved the beer but found it different in ways than both of you. I appreciate the thoughtful reviews. I wish more BAs would take the time to put some thought into what they are drinking rather than a quick rating that could easily be the product of a half ounce sample or something.

After a very long and eventful weekend at my sister's wedding, it's time to partake of some goodness.

From north of the border comes Hellwoods, a Russian Imperial Stout at 10% abv. Bellwoods is the brewery, and they are out of Toronto.

The beer pours extremely dark with a very thick dark brown head. Seems viscous visually and the feel is fairly thick as well. Lots of molasses on the flavor profile. Nice roasted malty thing going on as well. Rich beer. Very robust with a slight malt sweetness that accents things wonderfully. Very easy to drink and would probably be a good base for barrel aging or some type of additions.

Just drank Sunday Morning Stout from Weyerbacher. [IMG]

    Loved it. Here's my review:

    4.53/5 rDev +3.9%
    look: 5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

12 ounce bottle poured into a snifter.

Great viscosity on the pour and a lovely mocha-colored head forms a finger and a half thick. It's got plenty of chewiness to its look and a beautiful scattered lacing as it recedes. The pitch black body sets a superb contrast to the body and makes this a pleasure to look at before I dig in. 5

Chocolatey and coffee-like. Strong vanilla and oak flavors but not getting much booze or any specific booze in general. High five for that. I'm not a fan of the beers that are more bourbon than beer. The coffee aroma has some of that strong, earthy and almost spicy smell of fresh beans. Pretty nice from a far-from-well-read coffee drinker (on that specific subject, I mean). 4.5

I notice a lot of soy sauce initially, but also a strong coffee flavor, rich vanilla, and then a bit of bourbon close to the finish. Subsequent chips offer more dark chocolate and I'm starting to find this beer pretty damn delicious. This gets more and more caramel and vanilla sweet as I work my way through the glass. Very impressive flavor and I'll again emphasize how much I appreciate the fact it's not overrun by booze. 4.5

Smooth, creamy, viscous, thick-bodied and a light touch of carbonation. The finish is pretty bitter but that's kind of a given or otherwise this beer would be a sweet mess. It's not. It's very well-balanced and constructed. You'll notice the booze but not be overwhelmed by it. Just great. 4.5

Home run right here by these guys. Not sure how they captured this magic so well. Not sure what a brewery needs to do to age a beer in barrels to impart the good flavors and not become the booze itself, but Weyerbacher did it and I hope they can repeat the formula for years to come.

Busy day working in the yard. Trying to get some of the garden planted and some chores caught up. Relaxing now on the back porch before we light the grill, and enjoying a new beer thanks to @egrace84.

Fruit beers are not a normal style for me but I'm always open to new things. From what I hear, New Glarus has some of the best fruit beers in the game.

This is a gorgeous beer. Crystal clear deep crimson red with a dense white head that seemed to hang around forever.

I was worried about it being either too sweet or too sour, but no problems there. Really nice lights tart fruit flavors with just a hint of sweetness. A little oak coming through in both flavor and aroma to round things out.

Drinks a little more like champagne than a beer, but a really enjoyable for a warm afternoon. Looking forward to trying more of the NG fruits later.
